Job Title: Asset Improvement Engineer – PCM Engineer Job Holder: Reporting to: Manager Asset Management & Improvement Technology Business Group: Location: Engineering - Technology Group Port Talbot Date Established: Strip Products UK Purpose: To manage and lead the continuous improvement of equipment availability, reliability and maintainability through condition monitoring to improve product quality and reduce maintenance cost Asset Management The overall primary role of the Asset Improvement Engineer is to identify and manage asset reliability risks that could adversely affect plant or business operations and provide suitable and sustainable solutions. Accountabilities 1 2 Performance Measures To carry out condition monitoring data collection in area of responsibility, upload data in the databases, analyse data and report findings the works area representative, The jobholder must be able to carry out these activities or organise activities to be carried out by others to a high standard. Quality To manage, monitor and control research, development and implementation of predictive maintenance technologies in support of manufacturing maintenance activities across Strip UK – promoting best practices to world-class maintenance performance. Safety/Environment Delivery Cost People Financial 3 To establish, manage and control predictive maintenance techniques in support of an asset management strategy, incorporating criticality assessments, failure mode analysis, Tribology, SAP workflow process development , etc. 4 To provide high level specialist advanced maintenance support across Strip UK, i.e. provision of trouble shooting expertise, dive reliability based maintenance (RBM / RCM / TPM) philosophy, defining appropriate PCM/CBM standards, procedures and processes, specialist advice, training and coaching activities. 5 To develop site wide PCM/CBM research activities, trials / testing and documentation in respect to the latest condition monitoring tools and techniques and, ultimately disseminate information through training workshops, coaching and mentoring activities. 6 7 To coach, train and develop relevant PCM / Engineering personnel in the aspects of predictive maintenance and its impact on reliability / asset management techniques. Conduct assessments to benchmark predictive maintenance performance to ensure continuous improvement plans are developed in order to maximise benefits of PCM / CBM tools and techniques and associated reliability based maintenance activities. Skills and Knowledge An excellent understanding of the various condition monitoring techniques, together with experience / knowledge of maintenance best practice methodologies, i.e. RCM, Risk Based Inspection. Competencies Health and Safety Environmental Quality Management Understanding in the use of CSIs, AMS suite software to be able to create, collect and analyze and report on machinery Products and Processes condition. Business Strategy Understanding of the fundamental vibration issues Finance (misalignment, out of balance, looseness, resonance etc) and ability to detect and advise on effective method of Change Management removal. The jobholder should have a working knowledge of thermal Working with Others imaging tools and techniques and is able to apply the Analytical & Problem Solving method when required. Techniques Understanding of basic alignment and balancing tools and Technical Knowledge techniques in order to influence methods of maintenance. Understanding and working knowledge of ultrasonic acoustic tools and techniques and their ability to detect machinery issues. Engineering Standards and Processes Information Technology Excellent interpersonal skills in order to liaise with PCM / CBM equipment suppliers and manufacturers in order to trial / test new methodologies and techniques. The ability to work, both, as part of a team as well as independently, in a safe and professional manner is essential. Be proficient in the use of MS Office applications in order to produce standards, guidelines, practices and procedures, as well as compile presentations for the delivery of training / information in respect to condition monitoring trials / tests. 8 To ensure PCM / CBM equipment maintenance needs are clearly understood on all safety critical equipment, as required under such regulations as COMAH, ATEX and Process Safety. Ensuring that any changes, deemed necessary under the scope of asset management programme, are properly managed, via the Management of Change process. Open to change, promote best practice R and D abilities, and be willing to try new things Knowledge of TATA Health and Safety and Quality systems. Good communication and interpersonal skills 9 To work within the Health and Safety policy of TATA and align to the mandatory / statutory requirements, policies, programmes and procedures as well as all relevant legislative requirements that may be in force, and to ensure that all actions are enforced by relevant plant based PCM engineers. 10 To establish and manage inter works and external business units PCM / CBM exchange of knowledge forums, and predictive maintenance committee meetings within areas of specialisms, to benefit Strip UK 12 To lead Technology Group PCM / CBM department as the technical expert in their area of expertise. The candidate should be capable of conducting failure investigations (Root cause failure analysis )on a wide variety of mechanical components. Especially all the systems and components mentioned below. Technical report writing The ability to transpose any failure investigation findings and recommendations into coherent written reports is a fundamental requirement. Other types of technical reporting are also necessary e.g. when dealing with plant improvements, S.I.R.’s, contract specifications, updating standards etc. Context Asset Management is the systematic and coordinated activities and practices through which an organisation optimally and sustainability manages its assets and asset systems. The Asset Improvement Engineer – PCM engineer expert requires the candidate to develop in the expert role of PCM / CBM activities. Besides that, the person needs to be able to develop in the broader role of Asset Improvement Engineer The Asset Improvement Engineer is a professional who understands the principles of performance evaluation and prediction to improve product/systems safety, reliability and maintainability. This body of knowledge and applied technologies include, but are not limited to, design review and control; prediction, estimation, and apportionment methodology; failure mode effects and analysis; the planning, operation and analysis of reliability testing and field failures, including mathematical modeling; understanding human factors in reliability; and the ability to develop and administer reliability information systems for failure analysis, design and performance improvement and reliability program management over the entire product life cycle. Qualifications & Experience Dimensions Ideally pursuing Degree qualifications with potential membership of a Professional Institution (IMechE, IET). The jobholder must be a strong communicator, able to explain complex outputs to all levels within various functions. The ability to understand and explain this data in a simple, clear manner is essential. The ability to work, both, as part of a team as well as independently, in a safe and professional manner is essential. Good understanding of Asset Management culture and techniques, together with experience / knowledge of maintenance best practice methodologies. Knowledge / experience in the COMAH regulations and the associated safety requirements / obligations placed on the operators of COMAH sites.
