QUARTERLY REPORT JULY- SEPTEMBER 2010 ( SAAKSHAR SCHOOL ) As the students returned from vacations they needed to be rejuvenated to regain their lost confidence & interest back to studies. Hence teachers started with activities to ensure both the attention & attendance of the students. A variety of songs & poems were taught to the students through repetitive sessions of the same. The children thus learnt to open up & enjoy learning as part of a group. They also had hand-painting activity, as their hands were dipped in paint & then an impression of the same was taken. Through this they developed their sense of colour & motor skills. They made impressions on outlines of a tree & a mango, learning about them at the same time. The children were made more aware of their environment by story telling sessions depicting wild animals, fruits & vegetables. The teacher also showed them real fruits & vegetables to improve their recognition. The school had a young visitor who was delighted to see the children perform & recite poems with ease. The children learnt making simple toys from paper like masks & flowers. They were introduced to music & rhythm under the guidance of experts . The children enjoyed singing with music. The experts visited the Sakshar school from the Centre of Cultural Research & Training New Delhi in the closing week of July. The children also had free drawing sessions to bring out their creative & hidden talents August was a month of festivities . Independence Day was celebrated with great vigour at our Saakshar School. As part of the celebration the children made small flags and coloured them and gained knowledge of its importance. The teachers helped the students to enact various freedom fighters of our country. They also presented a couple of songs &dances to express their happiness. This developed a sense of pride and happiness among the young children. They also learnt imitation & enactment through this activity. Raksha Bandhan brought a great sense of excitement among children . With the help & guidance of the teachers the children learnt to make simple rakhi’s from waste material, like used cloth, bottle caps, used paper etc. which were then displayed on the boards. Another activity which helped the children to express themselves freely was colouring in the outlines of various shapes. The most enjoyed activity however remained freeplay as the children got the freedom to express themselves independently . Rains deeply affected the attendance to the school in September , as houses were waterlogged, lanes were completely submerged in water. However school continued its business as usual. A number of activities were conducted to enliven the children’s interest in school. Children dipped cut lady finger circles in colour to make flowers Of the four basic colours – Red, Yellow, Green, Blue. We celebrated the foundation day of our institute on Sep. 3, 2010.The Vigyan Vijay foundation completed 9 years of its foundation . As part of the celebration students of our Saakshar school presented a small programme comprising of songs ,dances, poem recitations & a short skit. With the help of the skit the children highlighted the importance of saving trees. Children were tested on their memory skills with the help of worksheets related to the syllabus.
