Creating an Acrostic Poem
Step 1: Choose a word that describes Terry Fox. Your word should have a
minimum of 7 letters.
Step 2: Go on to the website www.readwritethink.org. Put your mouse on
“classroom resources” and then click on “student interactives”. The third item is
“writing poetry”. Click on “acrostic poem”.
Step 3: Carefully read the description of an acrostic poem.
Step 4: Enter your name and your topic word (that’s the word that you chose that
describes Terry Fox).
Step 5: Complete the brainstorm using as many words that connect to Terry Fox as
you can think of. This will help you when you go to create your poem. Look at
your brainstorm from prior classes or the articles we looked at if you get stuck.
Step 6: Complete your acrostic poem using your imagination to help you create
the best poem possible!
