Dear Sir/Madam,
Re: Junior Programmer - Internet/Application (Summer job, May-August)
I am interested in applying for your junior programmer openings in both Internet and
Application. I am especially interested in working in your company because of your excellent
reputation and I believe my previous experience with computer programming and web
designing will make me a potential candidate for both positions.
As you will note in my resume, I am currently pursuing my second year of studies under the
Bachelor of Computer Science at the University of British Columbia. I have been exposed to
HTML, Javascript, C++ during my working experience in designing webpages for
MyInternetHome.com and School District 45. I have also developed skills in Flash, Unix,
Microsoft Word/Excel/Access, Windows95/98/NT, MATLAB, and various web-developing
softwares.
Moreover, I have gained valuable skills during my work-term at the IT
Department in Hong Kong Queen Mary Hospital, where I worked as a trouble-shooter for
technical problems and a database operator for the patient record system. Although at the
beginning of the training, I was only responsible for basic database maintenance, my
supervisor was very pleased with the efficiency of my work and had promoted me to higher
level tasks, such as creating database system and constructing new macros with Microsoft
Access. I see myself as a quick-learner and very self-motivated individual. Even though I
have never been exposed to Microsoft Access before the work-term, I learned a lot from my
supervisor and from reading books on the program myself. I believe these attributes are
very important in succeeding in the IT Industry.
I am very interested in working in your company and hope very much that you will grant me
the opportunity of an interview. I will be available for employment from May 1 to Aug 30.
You can reach me by phone at (604) 925-5068 or by email to awingy@interchange.ubc.ca.
Please let me know if I can provide any further information.
Yours truly,
Annie Cheng
