High School National Science Bowl Resource Guide
Description
This guide was developed accordingly to the subject topics that will show up at the National Science
Bowl competition. The required texts are adapted from the advanced placement program (or undergraduate
studies) and is necessary to gain a basic understanding of the subject. The supplementary texts were
developed according to the international olympiad syllabuses and provides a thorough and in-depth coverage
of the subject matter. One of the required texts will need to be chosen (based on your speciality) and an outline
of a reading schedule produced as a prerequisite to applying for University High School's science bowl team.
If you feel that there are any other texts that can cover the same breadth of the subject matter as the
required texts, feel free to use it in replacement. However, create an appropriate reading schedule for it as
well.
A great way to obtain these texts is to choose an edition or two older from the most recent as a used
book. These sell for much cheaper usually ranging from 5-30 dollars. Don't waste money buying the newer
editions, as they contain almost exactly the same information as well as the same diagrams. (Plus these
textbooks are for undergraduate studies, and at this level the concepts and content haven't changed for
decades)
All the subjects represented in this resource guide are direct correlations to the topic categories as
selected by the competition directors.

General Science
Not a formal category anymore, but there are old rounds which have such content and it is most closely related
to energy. There is one required text in this category which is starred. This will serve as “dictionary rounds” for
warm-up.
