The Academic Council by its R157/11 had in accordance with the Faculty of Business’s proposal approved that the last intake for the Master of Business Administration be in Quarter 2, 2011, and that the Master of Business Research and the Doctor of Business Administration cease to be available to new students in Singapore. . 58 7.1.2 The Board of Coursework Studies – New Postgraduate Courses for Offering from 2012 – Ref F32907 RESOLVED - 52 (i) to approve the introduction of the Graduate Diploma in Dental Sleep Medicine with effect from 2012; and (ii) to approve the introduction of the Master of Agricultural Science; Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Science; Graduate Certificate in Agricultural Science; Master of Biological Science; Graduate Diploma in Biological Science; Graduate Certificate in Biological Science; Master of Environmental Science; Graduate Diploma in Environmental Science; Graduate Certificate in Environmental Science; Master of Urban and Regional Planning; Graduate Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning; Graduate Certificate in Urban and Regional Planning; Master of Geoscience; Graduate Diploma in Geoscience; Graduate Certificate in Geoscience; Master of Hydrogeology; Graduate Diploma in Hydrogeology; Graduate Certificate in Hydrogeology with effect from 2012 7.1.3 Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics – Rescission of Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates – Refs: F5412, F5411, F5411, F15003, F7966, F15319, F15319, F15320, F5351, F3552 RESOLVED – 53 to approve the rescission, effective 2012 of the Graduate Certificate in Information Technology; Graduate Diploma in Information Technology; Graduate Diploma in Information Technology (Honours); Master of Information Technology (by Coursework); Doctor of Engineering in Information and Communications Technology; Graduate Certificate in Engineering in Power Systems; Graduate Diploma in Engineering in Power Systems; Master of Engineering (by Coursework – Power Systems Stream); Graduate Diploma in Financial Mathematics; Master of Financial Mathematics, subject to students currently undertaking courses leading to these awards being able to complete their courses and graduate in accordance with the relevant rules and policies. 7.1.4 Faculty of Life and Physical Sciences – Rescission of Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates Refs: F5210, F19581, F7785, F7786, F19582, F5212 RESOLVED - 54 to approve the rescission of the Graduate Certificate in Science Education; Graduate Certificate in Educational and Developmental Psychology; Graduate Certificate in Sports Science (Administration/Management) and Graduate Certificate in Sports Science (Coaching); Graduate Diploma in Educational and Developmental Psychology; Graduate Diploma in Education and Master of Psychology with immediate effect. 7.1.5 Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences – Rescission of the Graduate Diploma in Public Health Practice – Ref F7968 RESOLVED – 55 to approve the rescission of the Graduate Diploma in Public Health Practice with immediate effect. 7.2 Report of the Meeting held on 7 September 2011 7.2.1 Undergraduate Diplomas - Proposals for Change – Ref F26592 At its meeting held on 15 December 2008 Senate resolved (R99/08) (i) (ii) to endorse the principles of the report of the Review of Course Structures – Education for Tomorrow’s World: Courses of Action as clarified in the Steering Group paper ‘Responses to the Report’; to endorse the implementation of the recommendations in line with the University’s normal decision-making processes . . . . 59 Recommendation 29 of Education for Tomorrow’s World was as follows: That existing skills-based undergraduate diploma courses comprising eight units equivalent to a major (e.g. Diploma in Modern Languages) continue to be offered, provided that they can be undertaken only if the student is enrolled concurrently for an undergraduate degree or is a graduate. Following discussions in recent months in various forums across the University, the Senior Academic Reviewer, W/Professor Ian Reid, prepared a paper entitled Undergraduate Diplomas: Proposals for change. The recommendations in the paper reflected an identified need for a vehicle to permit graduates to pursue a major in a new field of study. This had been met previously by courses, such as the Bachelor of Science and Technology, which would not form part of the New Courses structure. The recommendations were considered by Academic Council at its meeting on 7 September 2011, when it was resolved (R169/11) to recommend: (i) that enrolment in an undergraduate diploma normally be open only to graduates; ... (viii) to prevent proliferation of undergraduate diploma titles and repeated enrolment by any student in sub-bachelor courses within the same area of knowledge, there be only four qualifications available: Diploma in Arts, Diploma in Commerce, Diploma in Design and Diploma in Science (within each of which a wide range of different majors may be offered); (ix) that the University resolve to extend undergraduate diplomas beyond ‘skills-based’ fields, making them potentially available in all fields that offer a major; and that the principle embodied in Recommendation 29 in the Review of Course Structures report be modified accordingly; ... In recognition of the University’s commitment to encouraging the study of languages, Council approved that the Diploma in Modern Languages continue to be offered concurrently with a bachelor’s degree course pending a comprehensive review in 2013. RESOLVED – 56 to approve that the Diploma in Arts, Diploma in Commerce, Diploma in Design and Diploma in Science be established effective 2012. 7.2.2 Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences – Rescission of the Graduate Certificate in Science and Graduate Diploma in Science – Refs F25829, F25717 RESOLVED – 57 to approve the rescission, effective 2012 of the Graduate Certificate in Science and Graduate Diploma in Science subject to students currently undertaking courses leading to the awards being able to complete their courses and have their awards conferred in accordance with the relevant rules and policies. 8.
