You will be required for approximately 15 minutes for singing and acting. There will
be a separate audition for dance.

Audition Format
Each auditionee will have a private 10 minute audition in front of the panel to sing their chosen song from
the selection below.
A reading from the script will also be required for those wishing to audition for a speaking role. Music and
script will be provided on request.
Music
No backing tracks are to be used. You may have an accompanist but the Music Director or designated
repetiteur will play for you otherwise. Memorisation of the song is highly desirable.
Please prepare your songs as they appear (see table on page 5) and sing all parts whether they are for your
character or not.
We are seeking experienced singers with the ability to sing flexibly across a broad range, in changing time
signatures and rhythms, with strong skills in holding harmony lines in 3-4 parts.

Acting
A reading will be provided when the character you are auditioning of is confirmed.
Dance
The dance audition will most likely take place the weekend following singing auditions.
Please wear comfortable clothes (no skirts or baggy clothes) and shoes you can dance in (no rubber sole
shoes). Also bring a bottle of water.

If call backs are deemed necessary they will be held soon after the intitial auditions. If you are not
called back it does not mean you haven't been given a role in the show.
GREASE - Character Breakdown
(For vocal range and songs required for audition see the table below)
DANNY:
Leader of the “Burger Palace Boys.” Well-built, good looking, with an air of cool easy-going charm. Strong,
confident good singer/dancer.
SANDY:
Danny’s love interest, sweet, wholesome, naive, cute. Well developed singing and dance skills.
The “Pink Ladies”: The club jacketed, gum-chewing, hip-swinging girls gang that hangs around with the
“Burger Palace Boys.”
RIZZO: Leader of the “Pink Ladies.” She is tough, sarcastic and outspoken yet vulnerable. Thin,
Italian with unconventional good looks.
FRENCHY: A dreamer. Good-natured and dumb. Heavily made-up, fussy about her appearance –
particularly her hair. She can’t wait to finish High School so she can become a beautician.
MARTY: The “beauty” of the “Pink Ladies.” Pretty, looks older than the other girls, but betrays her
real age when she opens her mouth.
JAN: Chubby, compulsive eater. Loud and pushy with the girls but shy with the boys.
The “Burger Palace Boys”: A super-cool, slick haired, tough looking group of High School wheelerdealers..... or so they think.
KENICKIE: Second-in-command of the “Burger Palace Boys.” Tough, tattooed, surly, avoids any
show of softness. Has an off-beat sense of humour.
DOODY: Youngest of the guys. Small, boyish, open, with a disarming smile and hero-worshipping
attitude toward the other guys. He also plays the guitar.
ROGER: The “anything-for-a-laugh” stocky type. Full of mischief, half-baked schemes and ideas. A
clown who enjoys putting other people on.
SONNY: Italian looking, with shiny black hair and dark oily skin. A braggart and a wheeler-dealer
who thinks he is a real lady-killer.
OTHER ROLES
PATTY: A typical cheerleader at a middle-class American Public High School. Attractive and athetic.
Aggresive, sure of herself, given to bursts of disconcerting enthusiasm. Catty, but in an All American
Girl sort of way. She can also twirl a baton.
CHA-CHA: A blind date. Slovenly, loud-mouthed and homely. Takes pride in being “the best dancer
at St Bernadette’s”
EUGENE: The class Valedictorian. Physically awkward, with weak eyes and a high-pitched voice. An
apple-polisher, smug and pompous but gullible.
VINCE FONTAINE: A typical “teen audience” radiop disc jockey. Slick, egotistical, fast-talking. A
veteran greaser.
JOHNNY CASINO: A “greaser” student at Rydell who leads a rock’n’roll band and likes to think of
himself as a real rock’n’roll idol.
TEEN ANGEL: A good-looking falsett-voiced, Fabian look alike. A singer who would have caused girls
to scream and riot back in 1958.
MISS LYNCH: An Old Maid English teacher.

REQUIREMENTS:
Where possible cast members shall:








Must be available for the entire production period (not negotiable).
attend all rehearsal where required unless previously advised.
be punctual and remain at rehearsals as long as required.
provide timely warning of any unavoidable absences to the appropriate person.
treat fellow cast members and production team with respect.
if required, provide their own accessories e.g. shoes, gloves etc.
if necessary, provide their own make-up in accordance with the make-up design of the production.
Be available for a range of media and publicity events and other promotional activity.
