Thank you very much, for your interest in the 2008 Lost
Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Pageant. Our Lost Dutchman Days
Rodeo Royalty Committee has been working all year to make this year
the best Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Pageant yet.
Below you will find the contents of this packet as well as
requirements and rules to becoming a part of the next Lost Dutchman
Days Rodeo Royalty Court. Please read and review all Requirements and
Rules as there have been a couple changes from previous years.

Requirements/ Rules – 2008
The Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Pageant is held annually to select 3 young
ladies (fulfilling the titles of Queen, Sr. Teen Queen, and Jr. Teen Queen) who have the
desire and enthusiasm to serve as a representative for Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo
Committee and the city of Apache Junction, Arizona. The Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo
Royalty promotes Lost Dutchman Days Events throughout Arizona as well as locally.
She is responsible for carrying the title proudly and fulfilling duties assigned by the Lost
Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Committee to the best of her ability. Breaking any
eligibility requirements, rules, agreements, and/or contracts will disqualify a contestant
from the competition and cause her to forfeit any title as well as all awards.
The Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Committee is responsible for giving direction,
support, and assistance to the Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty during their reign.
Also directs the ceremonies production and any other activities necessary to select a
titleholder for the next year. The LDD Rodeo Royalty Committee has the authority to
make provisions and waive eligibility, requirements and/or rules.
~Each contestant is required to submit a NON-REFUNDABLE $50 entry fee with the
enclosed application by Dec. 5th 2007 after that date the entry fee is $100.00 last date
to receive your application is Dec. 23rd 2007
~Contestants are required to type a description of the outfit they will be using for the
modeling segment as well as a biography card. These descriptions are to be no more
than one paragraph long. They also must leave out the contestant’s name. Simply
replacing her name with a blank space is sufficient. Printing her name on that paper
somewhere else is fine.
Eligibility/ Rules
Contestants must be a resident of Arizona as of January 1 of the year of competition.
The Lost Dutchman Days titleholders must remain living within Arizona during their
reign. If you are studying at an institution outside of Arizona as of January 1 of the
competition year you are not eligible to compete for a Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo
Royalty title. Each titleholder will be required to attend events in Apache Junction and
elsewhere in Arizona. It is the titleholder’s responsibility to attend mandatory meetings
and events during her reign as the Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty. As a titleholder
you are representing Apache Junction, you must be able to attend last minute
functions and promotions. If the contestant does not follow these guidelines they will
be disqualified to compete or hold a title for the Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty.
1. Queen Contestants must not be less that 18 years of age nor more than 24 years of
age as of the first day of the competition (January 12 , 2008).
2. Senior Teen Queen Contestants must not be less than 14 years of age or more than
17 years of age as of the first day of the competition (January 12 , 2008).
3. Junior Teen Queen Contestants must not be less than 10 years of age or more than
13 years of age as of the first day of the competition (January 12 , 2008).
4. As a part of the LDD Rodeo Royalty you are expected to provide your own clothing,
tack, and transportation to and from any event for them and their mount(s). As well
as participate in fundraising during the entire year.
5. Contestants must conduct themselves in a proper ladylike manner and portray high
moral standards. Contestants will not be permitted to drink alcoholic beverages,
smoke or use foul language at any time during the pageant, during the Lost
Dutchman Days or when representing Lost Dutchman Days.
6. Contestants must be single and never have been married.
7. Contestants must not be pregnant, or become pregnant and may not be a mother out
of wedlock.
8. In the event a contestant is a current titleholder of another rodeo queen title, that
current reign must be completed within 2 months of the Lost Dutchman Days pageant

and the Lost Dutchman Days title must be the only title represented at the Sunday
performance of the rodeo. If the previous title is not completed within 3 months of the
pageant, the Lost Dutchman Days title holder forfeits her title as well as all awards.
Pageant Division Rules and Regulations
Awards will be given to the girls scoring highest during all pageant activities in the
following categories: Horsemanship, Appearance, Speech, modeling, and Private
Interview. The overall winner will be crowned Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty.
Other awards include, but are not limited to Photogenic and Congeniality ; these
categories are not part of the contestant’s scores.
The contestants may not discuss interview questions with other contestants until after
the pageant is complete.
1. All applicants must complete the application process.
2. The Contestant must be prepared to provide horses and tack necessary for the
horsemanship competition, the Lost Dutchman Days events, any rodeo
activities, and activities throughout the year promoting Lost Dutchman Days.
3. Contestants may not leave the Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Pageant until
the coronation ceremonies. The pageant is not officially complete until
contestants are checked out with the LDD Rodeo Royalty Coordinator. Until then
they must abide by all pageant rules. Contestants not following these guidelines
will jeopardize future eligibility, any runner-up status and/or awards.
4. Contestants will provide their own transportation to and from the pageant
activities unless otherwise noted on the schedule of events.
5. Contestants must provide their own wardrobe and agree to follow the wardrobe
guidelines. Each contestant should have at least one complete western dress
outfit and one complete horsemanship outfit. Please see wardrobe guidelines in
the rules for more information.
Note: A Lost Dutchman Days titleholder who violates any of the eligibility
requirements/ rules during the competition or her reign will relinquish all
rights, prizes, and privileges of her title at the request of the Committee.
Judging
The Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Committee will use the following procedure for
judging each contestant:
1. Qualified Judges will be selected to judge all parts of the contest.
2. Decisions of the judges are final.
3. In the event of a tie, category or any of the 3 titles, the decision will be made by the
judge(s). However, no points will be added to or subtracted from contestant’s scores.
4. The services of score adders will be used to tally the judging sheets.
5. Score sheets will be mailed to each contestant after the pageant.
6. A pageant judge may not be approached by anyone. Action of this type can result in

disqualification of the contestant at the discretion of the LDD Rodeo Royalty Committee.
The LDD Rodeo Royalty Coordinator needs to be advised of any correspondence with a
judge or approached if there is a conflict that needs to be resolved.
Horsemanship/Horsemanship interview
Judges will be looking at:
1. Horsemanship, including control of mount, proper ring etiquette and the way each
situation that may occur is handled.
2. Balance, ability and position of hands, feet and seat when riding will be judged.
3. Understanding of leads and proper execution of a specific pattern.
4. Proper Mounting and dismounting is taken into consideration when judging.
5. Presentation run and flag run. All contestants will be asked to make a presentation
run at reasonable speed and carry a flag during a flag run. For your own safety,
please make sure any horse you bring is familiar with carrying a flag.
6. Knowledge of horsemanship and horse science is a judge portion.
7. Showmanship, including how well a contestant projects her personality to the
audience from horseback is considered while being judged.
7. Required attire for horsemanship is in the Wardrobe Guideline section of the rules.
Other considerations in Horsemanship include, but are not limited to the following:
A.) Understanding and skill from the contestant will be judged, NOT the horse or
equipment.
B.) Each contestant will be required to provide their own horse.
C.) NO CHAPS OR STAMPEDE STRINGS will be allowed in the competition
D.) Other arena work will be at the discretion of the judges and LDD Rodeo Royalty
Committee.
Private Interview
1. Interview questions may be related to rodeo (including terms, rules, standings,
events) current events, information submitted on your application, and/or
horsemanship information.
2. Contestants will be judged on her knowledge of questions, how she executes her
answers, and poise.
3. Each contestant will be given 10 minutes to complete her interview.
4. Required attire for Private Interview is in the Wardrobe Guideline section of the
rules.
Speech
1. The ability to communicate with an audience using appropriate and correct language
and good grammar.
2. Self-Projection on stage, including delivery, voice, manner and use of microphone.
3. Ability to present a speech in which the selected topic is well-developed, interesting
and understandable.
4. Speeches should be memorized. No props or cue cards or visual aids will be
allowed.
Other considerations in Speech including:

A.) Speeches must be three minutes in length for Queens and Senior Teens and two
minutes for Junior Teens. Deductions will be made for speeches shorter or
longer than the assigned times.
Appearance
This is not judged on beauty appearance, but on the overall appearance of the
contestant.
1. Grooming: including meticulous care in neatness and cleanliness in every detail such
as complexion, hands, fingernails, hair, hat, boots, and other apparel.
2. Posture: including carrying themselves straight and tall with self-confidence
3. Poise and ladylike behavior in every situation: This should include handling each
situation with grace, style and proper etiquette.
4. Western Fashion Sense: including western outfits that are fashionable, tastefulness.
Attention will be given to a contestant’s ability to use color and style to enhance their
personal features. Additional information is in the Wardrobe Guidelines in these rules.
5. Proper fit of clothing: including figure-flattering styles altered for a personal fit and
properly fitted and shaped hats. Judges will be looking for versatility and imagination
and a contestant’s ability to carry out a “total look” rather than an excessive amount of
clothing.
Photogenic Award
1. Photogenic Quality including strength of character, personality and wholesomeness.
2. Each contestant must supply the Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Pageant with one
5”x7” or 8”x 10” color photo. Photos must be head and shoulder pose (no action shots) in
western attire. Western attire will include: western blouse, suit or dress, hat and accessories.
It is the responsibility of the contestant to arrange their photo session and to submit framed
photos on time with their application, or the outfits and picture frame must be brought to the
orientation and a photograph will be taken there by the LDD Rodeo Royalty Coordinator for a
$5.00 fee. Photos will be for publicity purposes and the most photogenic award.
Note: this is the picture you submit at the contestant orientation. This does not count towards the
final scores for the pageant. Any PHOTOGRAPHS taken of contestants before or during the
pageant will become property of the Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Committee and will be
included in a news paper article regarding the pageant. This portion will be judged by the Lost
Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Committee.
Congeniality Award
1. Showing support to the other contestants.
2. Helping fellow contestants throughout the day of the pageant.
3. Showing true wholesomeness and friendliness to fellow contestants.
Note: This does not count towards the final scores for the pageant. This portion will be judged by
the Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Committee.)
Gift Raffle
Each contestant is required to bring 3 raffle prizes to hand out to raffle winners. Tickets will be
sold through out the day. Right after there speech and impromptu questions they will draw the
winners of there prizes.

WARDROBE GUIDELINES
1. Each contestant should have at least one complete western dress or skirt outfit with
accessories for speech and modeling.
2. Each contestant should have one complete horsemanship outfit. All contestants will
be required to five pocket BLACK jeans and a WHITE long sleeved, collared, button up
blouse (tucked in), boots, belt and hat. Boots, belt and hat color are at the contestants
discretion.
3. NO chaps, crowns or banners, straw hats, or stampede strings are to be worn by
contestants during the whole duration of the pageant.
4. It is up to the contestant how many western outfits she brings to the pageant.
SPORTSMANSHIP
The Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Committee expects each contestant to display
the highest degree of sportsmanship during the pageant, at the parade, during and
following coronation and during Lost Dutchman Days. Each contestant should be
mindful that they are representing Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Pageant, the
sport of rodeo, the Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Committee, as well as the City of Apache
Junction. Unsportsmanlike conduct could result in disqualification and affect future
eligibility to compete in the Lost Dutchman Days Royalty Pageant.
PARENTS, FRIENDS, AND RELATIVES
The Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Pageant welcomes and encourages the
presence of parents, friends, and relatives during the competition. The LDD Rodeo
Royalty Committee requests complete cooperation from these supporters during
pageant activities. At no time during the pageant shall parents, friends, or relatives
disturb contestants or approach the judges. During the pageant activities, the
contestants will be required to be together as a group without coaching. Some pageant
activities are open only to Contestants, LDD Rodeo Royalty Committee members
and Judges. If parents, friends, or relatives attend closed events, the contestant
may be disqualified from the pageant at the LDD Rodeo Royalty Committee’s
discretion. Parents, friends, and relatives are invited to attend all activities and are
responsible for obtaining tickets for the luncheon.
PROBLEMS AND COMPLAINTS- Any problems and/or complaints should be immediately
referred to the Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Coordinator. The Lost Dutchman Days
Rodeo Royalty Coordinator and Committee have full authority over the pageant and any
decision they make regarding requirements, rules and/or participation is final.

AGREEMENT
By my signature on this application, I hereby certify that I have read the accompanying Official
Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty/Pageant Regulations and Rules. I acknowledge that these
regulations and rules will prevail throughout all Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Pageant
programs, activities and functions; and that said regulations and rules pertain to all persons
related to my appearance in the Pageant.
That I hereby grant permission to the Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Committee to
verify any information contained on my application.
That I hereby release the Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Committee and the Lost
Dutchman Days Rodeo Committee from responsibility of injury or loss to persons or property,
involving me or persons related to my appearance in the Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty
Pageant, and which applies also to the heirs, assigns, executors, or administrators for me or
persons relative to my Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Pageant appearance and, that such
release shall include all accredited sponsors, commercial and private, or the Lost Dutchman Days
Rodeo Royalty Pageant and all officers and directors and groups of the Lost Dutchman Days
Rodeo Royalty Committee and Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Committee.

That I hereby release title, claim and rights to photographs and/or public relations materials
involving me to the Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Committee for use in Pageant
promotion.

That I certify that I have never been married, given birth to a child out of wedlock, or am
pregnant or have previously been pregnant.

Failure on my part to disclose this information to the Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty
Committee will automatically disqualify me from participating in the Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo
Royalty Pageant. Scholarships or prizes of any kind, which I may receive, will be returned to the
Pageant. The Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Pageant will be released from any and all
liability resulting from my actions.

That in the event I receive the Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty title, I will complete the
tenure of my title in accordance with the Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Agreement,
regulations, and rules and in the best interest of the Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty program
and the Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Committee; and, will relinquish all claims and
accouterments (crown, banners, etc.) All relating to the title upon the naming of my successor.

How the contest will work:
Private Interview - 10 minutes of questions regarding rodeo, current events, Lost Dutchman
Days and information taken from your application. Not all questions will be from the study
guide. This is only a guideline. MAKE SURE YOU STUDY!!!!!!!!
Horsemanship – each contestant will first do a selected reining pattern. (From the four
patterns that will be mailed to you in your 2nd packet) Upon completion of the pattern, the
contestant will walk to the judges, dismount and conduct a horsemanship interview. For the
Junior Teen age group a stool will be provided so each contestant has the opportunity to
dismount and remount. Jr. Teen Contestants will not be penalized if they choose to use
the stool. At the end of the horsemanship interview, the contestant will remount their horse,
trot back to the gate where they will pick up a flag and complete flag run, return to the gate to
execute a presentation run and exit the arena.
Speech/modeling/impromptu question/word association - Each contestant will be escorted
to the stage where she will model while her biography and outfit description is read. After
modeling, you will present your 2-3 minute speech on selected topic. (Topics are mailed in 2nd
packet) At the completion of your speech you will be asked two impromptu questions,
complete word association, and draw the raffle ticket for your raffle prizes.
Appearance – points will be accumulated from all aspects of the contest – horsemanship,
interview, speech, modeling, and impromptu questions.
Most photogenic – will be based solely on the photograph provided with your application. This
does not count towards the final score for the pageant.
Congeniality award - will be based solely on votes by the other contestants. This does not
count awards the final score for the pageant.
NOTE THIS IS A TENTATIVE SCHEDUAL A REVISED SCHEDUAL WIL BE PROVIED ONCE WE
HAVE THE NUMBER OF CONTESTANTS ECT.
7:30am
Check in at Horsemanship Arena – Apache Junction Rodeo Grounds on
Superstition. Welcome contestants and give overview of the days events.
8:00am
Personal Interviews – 10 minutes each.
Horsemanship - reining pattern, horsemanship interview, flag/presentation
run.
12:30pm
Check-in at luncheon area – To Be Announced, Apache Junction
Lunch will be provided for the contestant. Parents, friends and others will need
to make reservations and purchase their tickets accordingly.
2:15pm
Modeling (with biography and description of outfit), Speeches, Impromptu
Questions, Word Association, and boot raffle.
4:00pm
Tabulation of scores – 2007 Royalty Farwell
Individual Category Awards and Crowning of the 2008 Queen, Senior Teen
Queen and Junior Teen Queen.
NOTE:
The 2008 court will remain “In Waiting” until the 2007 LDD Royalty steps down
at the Rodeo Dance on Saturday night of Lost Dutchman Days. At that time,
the queens will be presented as the 2008 Royalty Court and they will be so
introduced to the crowd and do presentation runs at the Sunday Rodeo
Performance.

Before you can receive your 2nd Packet (Containing Orientation info., speech
topic, study guide and horsemanship patterns and other pageant information)
please return the following information. OREINTATION WILL BE DEC. 8TH 2007
TIME IS TO BE ANNOUNCED IN YOU SECOND PACKET. THIS IS MANDITORY
FOR ALL CONTESTANTS.
1. Completed Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty application.
2. Signed Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Royalty Agreement
3. Legal proof of age (Copy of birth certificate, driver’s license, or other proof of age)
4. A $50 LDD Rodeo Royalty contestant entry fee (NON- refundable)

5. One self addressed, double-stamped legal size envelope in which we will return
your second packet.
