Adopt an Element Name __________________ Requirements: Due Date _______________ 1) Complete the Adopt An Element Information Sheet. You may use a variety of reference sources. Possible ideas are encyclopedias, science books, science encyclopedias, science catalogs, magazines, and/or Internet sites* (see below). Information sheets must be neat, written in blue or black ink, and contain all of the information requested. 2) Create a model of your Element. Create a colorful model of your element. This should include the correct number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus, and the number of electrons in the electron cloud. Use poster board and everyday common objects for the subatomic particles. Be creative and have fun! 3) Typed Report Describe some of the physical and chemical characteristics of your element in a one-page report. Tell about its history and background, chemical family, as well as explain some common uses for your element. You may also tell who your elements friends are (those it will combine with). Write a one to two paragraph(s) conclusion about your element, as well as why you want to adopt this element. Describe the contributions this element will make to your family. 4) Oral Presentation Give a two to three minute presentation on your element. Be sure to include your name, your element’s name, interesting information, facts/uses, your opinion/conclusion of the element. Grading will be based on these factors as well as grammar, voice, preparation, enthusiasm, knowledge, and confidence.
