What’s New at SCSU...
SCSU Web site redesign
Microsoft Office 2007 on campus
St. Cloud State University announces its redesigned Web
site located at www.stcloudstate.edu.
Microsoft Office 2007 is now available on most campus
Windows computers. It includes Word, Excel, Outlook,
PowerPoint, Publisher, Access and InfoPath as well as two
new programs:
• OneNote – An electronic note-taking program
• Groove – A collaboration program that provides a space
to help teams work together, both online and offline
Microsoft Office 2007 for Windows is also available
for purchase from the SCSU Computer Store at reduced
prices for your home computer. For more resources and
information on Microsoft Office 2007, visit
huskynet.stcloudstate.edu/software/office2007.
Technology Support Line: 308-TECH
SCSU’s redesigned Web site reflects the global campus vision
The redesign comes as a part of the new marketing campaign, “What’s Your World?” which was developed to
reflect and convey the university’s global vision.
As a part of this redesign, Learning Resources & Technology
Services wants you to know that you now have easy access
to both our library (lrts.stcloudstate.edu/library) and technology
(huskynet.stcloudstate.edu) services through direct links located
in the upper-right corner of every SCSU Web page.
The Virtual Lab: remote access to software
The Virtual Lab is a pilot-project that provides remote access
to software from any computer with an Internet connection
and a HuskyNetID. SCSU students, faculty and staff can use
software in the Virtual Lab 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
from any location without the additional cost or inconvenience usually associated with software accessibility.
1
Many software programs are available through the
Virtual Lab, including Microsoft Office and Adobe (Macromedia) applications. These programs appear as if they
are running on your desktop, recognizing all keyboard
strokes and mouse clicks. For more information, or to try
out the Virtual Lab, visit huskynet.stcloudstate.edu/virtuallab.
Now you can dial a single phone number to access a
variety of St. Cloud State technology services. Just call
308-TECH (8324) anytime you have a technology related
question or problem. Our automated system will direct you
to someone who can help you with general computing support, campus computer labs, the Computer Store or library
services. You can still reach each service area by dialing
the individual number if you prefer, but for a convenient,
easy-to-remember solution for all of your technology needs,
dial (320) 308-TECH.
SCSU Bulletin Board coming soon
Look for more information this fall on the up coming SCSU
online bulletin board. This program will allow faculty and
staff to post and view listings such as announcements,
events, for sale items, free items and employment opportunities. Users will also have the ability to subscribe to and
customize an e-mail alert, which is sent out when new posting activity occurs within the category(s) you are interested.
Visit huskynet.stcloudstate.edu for project updates.

Instructional & Multimedia Tools
Phishing: A form of spam, phishing is a criminal activity
involving fraudulent e-mail messages sent in an attempt
to obtain your account information such as credit card
and banking records. E-mails are usually written under
the guise of “protecting” you by asking for “confirmation”
or “verification” of personal and/or account information.
However, please note that legitimate businesses will never
ask you for personal or financial information via e-mail.
Instructional and Multimedia
Technologies
Desire2Learn (D2L)
Web: huskynet.stcloudstate.edu/d2l
Desire2Learn (D2L) is SCSU’s course management system that
can be used to create and distribute elements of your courses
online. To use D2L, you will first need to request that a course
be created for you. Once your course request is processed,
you can log in and begin your D2L course development.
Electronic Classrooms
Web: huskynet.stcloudstate.edu/eclassrooms
SCSU has more than 135 electronic classrooms that are
equipped with a computer, touch-screen audio-visual management system and multimedia equipment including a
projector, DVD/VCR combo and speakers.
Classroom Performance System and “Clickers”:
A Classroom
Performance System (CPS) is a wireless response system
that allows your students to interact with you electronically
by using a wireless response device (clicker) to answer
questions in real time with just the click of a button. Clickers are often used to take attendance, administer quizzes
and get instant feedback and class participation. Nineteen
classrooms at SCSU are equipped with a CPS, including
all classrooms with seating for 75 students or more. Visit
huskynet.stcloudstate.edu/clickers for more information.

Multimedia/Web and Video Production
Web: huskynet.stcloudstate.edu/multimedia
Multimedia technologies at SCSU utilize audio and video
to provide interactive classroom experiences that are accessible to students both on and off campus, often 24 hours
a day. The following is a list of a few of these technologies
and resources available to you.
Multimedia Support
SCSU’s Instructional Technologies &
Infrastructure Services (ITIS) provides assistance with
graphic design, Web site support, video production,
CD/DVD duplication and electronic presentations.
Adobe Acrobat Connect
Acrobat Connect is an online Web
conferencing and collaboration tool. It provides multimedia capabilities that can be used for many activities such
as group work, online office hours and interactive classes.
MediaSite
MediaSite is a content distribution tool most often used to rebroadcast audio and video recordings of
courses, lectures and presentations online.
Podcasting Podcasting is the distribution of media-filled pro-
grams (podcasts) over the Internet. Podcasts can consist of
media such as audio, video and print files and are available for download and playback on personal computers
or portable media players (like iPods). You can subscribe
to podcasts, unlike simple downloads, and use a content software program (like iTunes or an RSS aggregator)
to automatically retrieve new content as it is published.
Video Conferencing and ITV This
technology allows two parties in different locations to interact with video and audio
capabilities, simultaneously. It is most commonly used at
SCSU between an instructor located in an ITV classroom
on campus and a classroom of students off campus.
Classes can be scheduled in one of more than 135 state-of-the-art
electronic classrooms at St. Cloud State University.
