Associate Professor, Kinesiology Programs
Washington State University is a major research university where teaching, research and service are all highly valued.
The Kinesiology Programs are housed within the Department of Educational Leadership and Counseling Psychology in
the College of Education. Sport Science, Athletic Training, and Health and Fitness Teacher Certification comprise the
Kinesiology programs. WSU is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a Doctoral-Research-Extensive Institution,
located in the rural rolling hills of the Palouse region in Washington state and has three other campuses in addition to
the Pullman campus (Spokane, Tri-Cities, and Vancouver).
Position Description: The Kinesiology Programs is seeking applications for an associate professor position in a tenure
track, 9-month position with possibility of summer employment. We are looking for applicants with demonstrated
engagement in interdisciplinary work who can foster scholarly connections among current department faculty and
across the university. Applicants in all fields of kinesiology will be considered, with preference to applicants who can
successfully deliver coursework in two or more of the following areas of health and exercise science such as
biomechanics, exercise physiology, nutrition, exercise testing and prescription, health and capstone courses. We are
open to combinations of teaching expertise to fill undergraduate teaching needs.
Responsibilities: Participation in innovative teaching, research, and service activities, as well as, the integration of
kinesiology with campus, community, and rural entities. The College of Education seeks applicants with a demonstrated
knowledge and ability to work effectively with individuals and groups with a variety of identities, cultures, backgrounds
and ideologies in a global environment.
Required Qualifications: Qualified candidates must possess: an earned doctorate in a kinesiology or related field (e.g.
public health/promotion, exercise physiology, biomechanics); background commensurate with associate professor rank;
and commitment to high-quality, innovative teaching in kinesiology related classes. Candidates must show
successful evidence of research publication and external funding as well as evidence of the ability to work effectively
as a team member in a large and dynamic teaching and research environment.
Preferred Qualifications: We seek candidates to join our team who can demonstrate the ability to lead interdisciplinary
initiatives with units across campus (e.g., bioengineering, extension, prevention science, biology) as well as provide
leadership within the three kinesiology programmatic areas of Sport Science, Athletic Training, and Health & Fitness
K-12 Teaching. Strong candidates will enhance the research and external funding portfolio of the College, be committed
to quality teaching and mentoring of undergraduate students, and provide leadership to the program and profession.
