Color me autumn COLORIST: Anna Field COLOR: “I went with an all-over rich, warm, chocolate-brown color to complement her skin tone,” explains Anna, who added honey-caramel highlights for depth. THE TAKEAWAY: Salon owner Stephen Posta says toning it down is the 2011 fall and winter hair color trend: “Brunettes need to go with warmer, darker tones, with subtle hints of red, light brown or blonde highlights. Blondes should go with beige-honey highlights, and steer away from light blonde for the colder months.” To keep his stylists on-point with the latest trends, Stephen and coowner Amanda Dyer send them to train with Marie Robinson at her celebrity-touted NYC salon. Marie even named Dyer and Posta an affiliate salon—quite an honor. Layer of love STYLIST: David Humphries CUT: “Since Jen has really thick hair and usually wears it curly, layers are the way to go to take off weight,” David says. He gave Jen long layers with side-angled bangs, which will work straight or curly. THE TAKEAWAY: “If you wear your hair naturally curly, you have to cut it in layers,” David explains. “Otherwise it will look like a big triangle framing your head.” Makeup game MAKEUP ARTIST: Shannon Silva SKIN AND EYES: Shannon started with a concealer to cover AFTER 10 blackdressredwagon.com up redness, followed by loose powder. Then, she applied blush to the apples of Jen’s cheeks and bronzer on her forehead, cheeks, jaw and neck. For transformed eyes, Shannon used Mac shadow in Vanilla as a base before sweeping NYX shadow in Copper in the crease and along the lash line. Next, Cocoa from Bobbi Brown was blended from the corner of the eye to midway across the lid. Dark eyeliner was then penciled along the upper and lower lash lines. THE TAKEAWAY: “Dab Benefit’s High Beam skin highlighter across your cheeks to get that glowing Kardashian look,” shares Shannon. “Another tip: if you bend your eyelashes with the mascara brush and hold it there, you won’t have to use an eyelash curler.” ● Photography by Jennifer Harris PARTY HAIR ‘Tis the season to party, and you don’t want to be sporting your mom ‘do to the festivities. So back away from the scrunchie and put down the baseball cap; Stephen showed us how to quickly (like 10-minutes quick) create a sexy party look. • Lift hair at the crown and tease it underneath with a comb to give it lift. • Pull your hair back into a low side ponytail. • Twist the pony into a loose chignon and pin into place with large bobby pins. • Leave a few loose tendrils around the face, like Jen’s above.
