This form is for students applying to be a student assistant within the Multicultural Center for the 2015-2016 year. Students who apply must have received Federal Work Study or Panther Works in their Financial Aid Award.
MULTICULTURAL CENTER STUDENT ASSISTANT
Must have Federal Work-Study or Panther Works
Hours per week 6-10 hours based on Work Study or Panther Works award
(Some evening and weekend hours may be required.)
Fall 2015
Location: 206 Student Center East
Wage: Starting at $8.00 per hour
Basic Qualifications:
Proven customer service and leadership experiences.
Good verbal communication and presentation skills.
Detailed oriented, organized, and dependable.
Pleasant and welcoming demeanor.
Creative with a good instinct for effective visual promotional pieces.
Experienced with computers and office equipment.
Ability to interact with students and visitors from diverse backgrounds.
Required Meetings:
Required to attend student staff meetings (included as work hours)
Personal Characteristics:
Must have ability to positively interact with students, faculty, staff and visitors from diverse backgrounds.
Must be mature, outgoing, and have a pleasant, positive, welcoming demeanor.
Must have good people skills and be willing to speak professionally and unscripted to groups.
Must be flexible, adaptable and willing to work as a team player.
Have interest in multicultural matters and concerns.
General Duties:
Routine Office Procedures
Provide front desk/library coverage and open and/or close when needed.
Answer telephone calls and take accurate messages.
Assist students, faculty and staff with checking out and checking in library materials when needed.
Provide information and assistance for individuals who have reserved space for special events.
Assist with recording results/data entry of evaluations following events.
Event Coordination
Assist with promoting and staffing Department’s events during the year.
Serve as a member of the “Host Team” for Department events, with duties ranging from serving as emcee, serving as an usher, serving as a greeter, etc.
Help with set up and groundwork needed for events including: hanging decorations, room set up, cutting handbills, folding programs, etc.
Departmental Outreach
Assist with reaching out to students and student organizations and university departments.
Represent Multicultural Programs/Multicultural Center at specialized events such as Open House, Welcome Receptions, Office of Admissions events, and INCEPT.
Take any and every opportunity to talk positively about the office and its staff and encourage friends and classmates to take advantage of what the office offers.
Departmental Presentations
Present to groups/classes about Department’s current and upcoming events.
Represent Multicultural Programs/Multicultural Center as promoter and spokesperson through general informational presentations in the following ways:
Setting up and staffing table displays
Distributing handbills and brochures
Generally providing information about the office and its programs.
Other Duties
Attend suggested campus multicultural trainings when possible and other duties as assigned.
