Fifty-four of 86 games in conference play (62.8 percent) have been decided by 11 points or less and nine of 10 squads in the Big 12 have had at least one overtime game in league play. Six teams are ranked in the latest top 25 polls. Despite the Big 12 having the fewest teams, that’s the most of any conference. Nine of 10 squads in the Big 12 have been ranked or received votes this season. For the 11th time since 2001, the Big 12 Conference will host NCAA men’s basketball competition. This year’s games are set for Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City. Big 12 teams have a 28-15 (.651) record versus the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC. It is the best combined winning percentage in the nation for those conferences against each other and the top mark in Big 12 history. Tickets to the preliminary-round games of the 2016 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship remain available for purchase. The contests in Oklahoma City will take place on March 18 & 20 and the site is one of four nationally where both singlesession and all-session tickets are now available. The Big 12 boasts the nation’s best non-conference winning percentage (.820) and has just 23 non-league losses, the fewest of any conference. He has 1,241 career points, moving into 14th place on the Baylor all-time scoring list. Senior forward Georges Niang is the ninth Division I player since 1995 to record 2,000 points, 600 rebounds and 400 assists in a career. He has 1,129 points in conference games - second on the Big 12 all-time scoring list. Senior guard Lester Medford has 210 assists this year, the third player in school history with 200 or more in a single campaign. He has 12 career double-figure assists efforts, the same total as the rest of the active players in the Big 12 combined. Junior guard Monté Morris has posted 215 assists this season, the third-highest total in school history. He has dished out eight or more assists in a game 13 times in 2015-16 and boasts 12 double-digit assists efforts for his career. Baylor finished with a 6-3 record in conference road games, matching the program’s most road victories (2012) since the Big 12 began play in 1997. The Bears have 124 overall wins since 2011-12, the second-most (Kansas) in the conference. Senior forward Abdel Nader is averaging 19.2 points over his last five contests, shooting 50.8 percent from the field and 47.4 percent from 3-point range. He has scored 19 points or more six times in the past nine outings. KU has finished first or second in all but one season in Big 12 history. Kansas State shot 76.2 percent in the first half against TCU, the seventh-best field goal percentage in a half in school history. The Wildcats finished the game with a .565 mark from the field, the sixth time this year they have shot over 50 percent. The Jayhawks have won 25 games or more in each of the past 11 seasons and at least 13 league contests in all of those campaigns. Coach Bill Self has more consecutive Big 12 titles (12) than he does home losses (9) in his 13 years in Lawrence. Junior forward Wesley Iwundu is the only Wildcat to have started every game this season. He has 20 points or more in a game 21 times in 2015-16 and has 1,181 career points in conference play over four seasons, the most by any player in Big 12 history. Junior forward Leyton Hammonds had 20 points versus Texas, the 11th time this year he has scored in double figures. He has had six rebounds or more four times in the past six outings and shot 57 percent or better three times in the last four games. Hield has 121 field goals from 3-point range this season, setting the Big 12 singleseason record. Hield has five or more 3-pointers in a game 12 times this year, more than any other player in the nation. Senior guard Jeff Newberry is the only Oklahoma State player to have started every game in 2015-16. He has 17 double-figure scoring efforts this season and seven or more rebounds on nine different occasions. Senior forward Ryan Spangler has recorded a double-double in two of his last three outings, averaging 14.3 points and 10.7 rebounds while shooting 62.1 percent over the three-game span. He has 15 double-digit rebounding efforts this season. Sophomore guard Tyree Griffin has totaled 35 assists in the past six outings and has 15 games this year with one turnover or less. He is tied for the team lead in assists (Jawun Evans) with 108 this season. He has also been perfect from the free throw line in three of the past five games and 11 times overall this year. Texas is 4-1 this year at home against Associated Press top 20 opponents, including a 3-1 mark versus top 10 foes at home. UT has set a single-season school record with four victories against AP top 10 opponents overall. Sophomore guard Malique Trent has eight steals over the last two contests and has 10 outings overall with three or more thefts this season. He has scored in double digits in four of his past five contests. Freshman Kerwin Roach has scored in double digits twice in the past three contests and eight times in 2015-16. He is shooting 63.6 percent over his last four games and has connected at a .500 clip or better 11 times in the past 12 outings. In the last 17 games, TCU has played 11 opponent that were either ranked or receiving votes in the top 25 polls. The Horned Frogs have also limited 13 foes below 70 points during the 2015-16 season. West Virginia has 12 conference victories, its most since joining the Big 12 and highest total since the 2009-10 squad finished 13-5 en route to the Final Four. The Mountaineers will be either the No. 2 or No. 3 seed at the Big 12 Championship. Tech shot 56.1 percent at West Virginia, the third time in four games it has connected at a .500 or better clip from the floor. The team has been over 50 percent nine times in 2015-16 and has shot below 40 percent on just six occasions. Senior forward Jonathan Holton has grabbed double-figure rebounds in four straight contests and six of his last nine games. He has at least six rebounds in all but two of his outings in conference play this season. The Red Raiders’ eight conference victories are their most since 2006-07, the last time Texas Tech earned a NCAA bid. Phillips 66 Weekly Awards A Big 12 Player and Rookie of the Week are chosen each Monday from November 16 March 7. Nominations are submitted by the school communications offices and winners are selected by a panel of media voters who cover college basketball on a regular basis. This year marks the 20th year for Phillips 66 as a sponsor of the Big 12 Conference. Postseason Awards The Big 12 presents the only official all-conference awards at the end of the regular season. Major award winners are chosen, along with the All-Big 12 teams. Each Big 12 head coach votes on the squads and is not permitted to vote for his own players. The awards were announced on Sunday, March 6 prior to the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship. Academic All-Big 12 teams are also chosen in men’s basketball and were announced prior to the postseason. Big 12 Coaches’ Teleconference Big 12 men’s basketball coaches participate in a weekly media-only teleconference during the 2015-16 season.
