Location Alfred University is a residential, student-centered, vibrant living/learning community located on a beautiful 232 acre campus with more than 50 academic and residential buildings plus another 400 acres of nearby recreational land. Facilities The ceramics facilities include over 36,000 square feet of interior space as well as outdoor space devoted to various aspects of ceramic fabrication and technology. The extensive indoor kiln room has over 10 gas and 20 electric kilns which include wood, salt, soda, and raku kilns. The new 3D Digital Fabrication Lab offers cutting-edge exploration of new technologies in ceramics. Other facilities include a plaster lab, spray booth, extruders, slab rollers, and a variety of types of potter’s wheels. Boxed clay is sold through the grinding room. The raw materials lab is supplied with over 100 materials and the glaze application room is stocked with a selection of glazes for each workshop. Campus map, directions and travel suggestions http://www.alfred.edu/campus/ Airport Shuttle A $100 round trip ($50 one way) shuttle service is available for those traveling to/from the (ROC) Rochester, NY airport. An airport shuttle will depart at approximately 4 pm each Sunday; the trip takes approximately 90 minutes. A return shuttle will leave campus each Saturday morning at 9 am (arriving to the airport at approximately 10:30 am). Please plan your arrival and departure times accordingly. Advance registration is required, contact johnsonc@alfred.edu. Vehicles Ample parking is available in student and faculty lots during the summer. No parking passes are required. Refund Policy Full refunds, less a $50 fee, for any 2 or 4 week workshop or studio or the 2 day short course must be received, in writing, by June 1, 2014. No partial refunds will be given to those who arrive late or leave early. Refunds take up to four weeks to process. Alfred University Bookstore Located on the main floor of the Powell Campus Center in the center of the campus, the Bookstore carries a wide range of art supplies and materials. Smoking Policy All University buildings are smoke-free. Animal Policy Animals are not allowed in any University building unless trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability. Meals are also available to purchase on a walk-in basis in Ade dining hall most of Summer Session II (June 30August 8) or at restaurants in the Village of Alfred. Local Restaurants Weather It’s warm and sunny most of the time with typical daytime highs in the 70s and 80s. Activities Many participants spend their time in the studio or attending lectures and demonstrations. Other summer activities include Carillon and Village Band concerts, local Farmers Markets, hiking, swimming, and visiting the shops in downtown Alfred.
