Students must earn a 2.0 in all ECO courses to graduate. The major requires 15 hours of ECO Electives, at least 6 of those hours must be in courses that require ECO 315 or 317 as a prerequisite (known as ECO Adv. Electives and numbered 410 or above). General Requirements: All students must earn 128 hours to graduate; minimum of 64 hours of non-business courses are required. A 2.0 GPA overall and 2.0 GPA in business are required to graduate. The Miami Plan Foundation (MPF) includes the Historical Perspective and Cultures requirements. These may overlap with another MPF course or FSB Diversity requirement. FSB students must select a thematic sequence outside the School of Business (ISA 2 is the only exception to this rule). Miami Entry Fall 2013 Revised 10/13 Business Economics Information Description: The Business Economics major is for students who want to understand decision-making and problem solving in the context of business and social environments. The major fosters an understanding of the objectives and functions of a private enterprise economy, develops a general analysis of decision-making, and applies these principles to business and social problems. Economics provides a unified framework to think about choices in many contexts, the consequences of these choices, and the ability of leaders to affect them. A key piece of intellectual capital acquired by Business Economics majors is a well-honed skill for critical thinking, especially with regard to problems that involve data and quantitative methods.
