Departmental Notes:
 Students must complete at least 9 hours of advanced
economics (above 300 level) at Miami, including ECO 315
and 317.
 Students must earn a 2.0 in all ECO courses to graduate.
 The major requires 15 hours of ECO Electives, at least 6
of those hours must be in courses that require ECO 315
or 317 as a prerequisite (known as ECO Adv. Electives
and numbered 410 or above).
 ECO Adv. Electives include the following: ECO 411, 414,
416, 417, 418, 419, 423, 427, 441, 442, 451, 461, 462,
465, and 468.
 ECO 405 may satisfy the Capstone and ECO Elective
requirement.
Prerequisite Information:
 ACC 222: ACC 221
 ECO 201, ECO 202: MTH 102 or math placement score of
12 or higher
 ECO 311, 315, 317: A grade of “C” or better in ECO 201
and 202
 FIN 301: ACC 221, ACC 222, ECO 201, and ECO 202
 ISA 205: MTH 151
 ISA 235: CSE 148; BUS 101 is a pre or co requisite
 MGT 302: ISA 205
 Capstone: FIN 301, MGT 291, MKT 291
 All 200 level business core courses should be completed
by the 5th semester.

General Requirements:
 All students must earn 128 hours to graduate; minimum of 64 hours of non-business courses are required.
 A 2.0 GPA overall and 2.0 GPA in business are required to graduate.
 The Miami Plan Foundation (MPF) includes the Historical Perspective and Cultures requirements. These may overlap with
another MPF course or FSB Diversity requirement.
 FSB students must select a thematic sequence outside the School of Business (ISA 2 is the only exception to this rule). You
must declare your thematic sequence; contact sponsoring department to do so.

Business Economics Information
Description:
The Business Economics major is for students who want to
understand decision-making and problem solving in the
context of business and social environments. The major
fosters an understanding of the objectives and functions of
a private enterprise economy, develops a general analysis
of decision-making, and applies these principles to
business and social problems.
Economics provides a unified framework to think about
choices in many contexts, the consequences of these
choices, and the ability of leaders to affect them. A key
piece of intellectual capital acquired by Business Economics
majors is a well-honed skill for critical thinking, especially
with regard to problems that involve data and quantitative
methods.
