Lake Charles, LA – Winrock International and SWLA Economic Development Alliance hosted a workshop on September 16, 2013
at the newly opened SEED Center in Lake Charles to provide information to current and potential LNG industry contractors. The
event drew an audience of approximately 90 people representing over 50 companies and agencies.
Attendees heard presentations from SWLA Economic Development Alliance, Louisiana Economic Development, Cheniere Energy,
and Safety Council of Southwest Louisiana. The presentations were designed to make local businesses aware of opportunities,
incentives, and the contracting/licensing processes for working with the burgeoning LNG industry in Southwest Louisiana.
Highlights from the presentations included a list of sectors that are in high demand within the LNG industry, training and tax incentive programs available through LED, SEED Center Incubator eligibility and application process, and information about how to
register as a subcontractor with Cheniere. The Cheniere registration form can be found here.
Plans are currently underway to host a November workshop in Cameron Parish. When details are finalized, the CLEAR Center will
provide public notification through its Facebook page, local newspapers, newsletters, and direct e-mail.
If you wish to be included on the CLEAR Center’s e-mail list for future notifications or newsletters, please contact Vicki Malpass at
vmalpass@winrock.org. Also, if you would like to request a PDF version of the presentations made on September 16, contact

Workforce Challenge Summit to be held on October 30, 2013
L’Auberge Casino Resort will be the location for a summit that will bring together Louisiana’s leaders and policymakers in government, education, business, and economic development to participate in discussions concerning the challenges that Louisiana faces as
hundreds of thousands of jobs are created through the influx of technology-based companies and the oil & gas industries. Some
estimates forecast that as many as 290,000 positions could be created by 2020.
Speakers scheduled to present at “Stepping Up: Meeting the Workforce Challenge for Louisiana’s Dynamic Economic Expansion”
include Economist Dr. Loren Scott, various state government and educational leaders, and David Chavern, Executive Vice President
and Chief Operating Officer for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Cajun Industries, LLC, is the events title sponsor. SWLA Economic Development Alliance, Council For A Better Louisiana, and The
Louisiana Association of Business and Industry have partnered to present the event. For more information or to register for the
event, click here.
