Director’s Message: Funland needing TLC…
Funland Playground has been the most
popular playground in Hermiston since
it was built 15 years ago. The original
structure was conceived and constructed
by community members who wanted to
create the ultimate playground for kids to
explore, learn and play. The structure was
destroyed in an arson fire 10 years ago
and was rebuilt by the same core group of
volunteers and community leaders.
Funland has been a source of pride for
Hermiston and symbol of what this community can accomplish with imagination and
persistence.
Sadly, Funland today is showing significant
signs of aging, abuse and vandalism. The
cause of the broken floor system, damaged
boards, removed swings, and offensive graffiti is unsupervised teenagers using Funland
as a hangout. Funland is made of wood
making it vulnerable to abuse.
We need your help! The solution is to
restore the damaged sections of Funland
utilizing the efforts of local service groups.
Hermiston Leadership will be restoring
the “Music Room” and train engine this
Spring. The Hermiston Lions club restored
four platforms last year utilizing stronger
materials. Walmart DC has organized
several work parties to restore and paint
sections of Funland. Park Department
employees are removing the graffiti as it
occurs, removing hiding spaces where teens
have been known to cause vandalism. Use
of Funland will be officially restricted to
daylight hours and the Hermiston Police
Department is eager to protect our public
assets from further vandalism with additional patrols, lighting and cameras.
Most importantly, if you see any concerning
or damaging behavior at Funland playground, please report it immediately to the
Hermiston Parks and Recreation Department or the Police Department. Your
eyes are the most effective surveillance
to protect this most popular playground
for future generations. If you wish to help
restore Funland, please contact me.

City of Hermiston By registering in a Hermiston Parks and Recreation programs,
you are making an investment in the health and wellbeing of
your family. We work hard to make sure your recreational
experience is exceptional and high value. While each program
is unique, the following policies are developed to help manage
your experience as a participant.
Resident / Non-Resident Rates
Because the programs offered by Hermiston Parks and
Recreation rely on local tax payer support, non-resident fees
have been instituted to offset the difference. The resident
rate applies to participants that live within the Hermiston city
limits.
Cancellation Policy
We may be required to cancel programs for reasons beyond
our control on rare occasions. Every effort will be given to
reschedule an interrupted program as soon as possible. If a
program cannot be rescheduled a pro-rated credit may be
available to participants in lieu of a refund.
Withdrawal / Refund Policy
We recognize that you may need to withdraw from a program
for a variety of reasons. Because our programs are selfsupporting, we rely on registration fees to operate them. If
you withdraw from a program 7 days prior to the beginning
date, a refund may be issued (less a $10 processing fee). A
credit may be issued to participants for withdrawal within 7
days of the first date. Beyond the first day of a program, no
refunds will be issued for a program withdrawal.
Photo Policy
Capturing the moment. By attending any Hermiston Parks
& Recreation program, you understand that a picture of you
or your family may be taken. We use photographs for quality
improvement and also in future marketing materials. Names
are not published specific permission granted by a participant.

Water Walking is based in the Lazy River. All abilities are welcome. This
is a great low impact workout for anyone. This Lazy River has a current
and you are welcome to walk with or against the current.
Splash your way into shape with an invigorating low-impact aquatic
exercise. Known as the Zumba® “pool party,” the Aqua Zumba program
gives new meaning to the idea of a refreshing workout. Integrating
the Zumba philosophy with traditional aquatic fitness disciplines, Aqua
Zumba® blends it all together into workout that’s cardio-conditioning,
body-toning, and most of all, exhilarating beyond belief.
