Transfer Guide for Metropolitan Community College
This plan is intended only as a general guide based on requirements in the 2013-2014 University of Missouri undergraduate catalog. Check the following web sites
for current course descriptions, prerequisites, course equivalencies and other specific details about the psychology degree:
1) College Catalog (http://registrar.missouri.edu)
2) Transfer Equivalencies (http://transfercourses.missouri.edu)
3) General Education (http://generaleducation.missouri.edu)
4) Psychological Sciences (http://psychology.missouri.edu/undergrad)
Important Reminders for Transfer Students:
Grade Requirements:
All psychology major course requirements must be completed with a C or better (no C- or below will be accepted). This includes Statistics 1200 or 1300 (= MATH 115
Statistics), a required course for the psychology major.
Course Levels (1000 = freshmen, 2000 = sophomore, 3000 = junior, 4000 = senior-level at MU):
When MU accepts transfer coursework, it is accepted at the course level where the course was completed. All Metropolitan Community College courses transfer to
MU as either freshman (1000+) or sophomore level (2000+). MU requires at least 30 credit hours at the 3000-level or above in order to graduate, so incoming
transfer students must be careful to plan at least 30 credit hours of junior- and senior-level MU coursework in their remaining degree requirements to be completed
at MU.
Psychology Course Equivalency Information:
Some transfer psychology courses do not have exact course matches at MU. When this happens, the transfer course will be evaluated by MU Admissions as a
“Psychology BEH” course. “BEH” refers to “Behavioral Science” and indicates that the transfer course does not have an exact course number match with a psychology
course offered at MU.
If a freshmen-level or sophomore-level “Psych BEH” course contains content that is covered in a psychology major distribution area, the course can be counted as a
distribution course. (The distribution areas are Learning/Cognition, Biological/Neuroscience, Social/Personality, Developmental, and Clinical/Abnormal.) If a
sophomore-level or above “Psych BEH” course does not include content that covers a distribution area, the course can count as one of the two “Psychology 2000+
Elective” courses required in the psychology major. (Freshmen-level “Psych BEH” courses cannot count toward the Psychology 2000+ Elective requirement.)
For example: “Psych 148: Group Processes” at MCC transfers to MU as a freshmen-level “Psych BEH” course, and the course counts in the Social/Personality
distribution area. However, the freshmen-level course cannot count toward the Psych 2000+ Elective requirement. Please refer to the Coursework Transfer Guide to
determine how Psych BEH courses from your transfer college will count toward the psychology major at MU.
Required Research Methods Sequence:
Psychology majors are required to complete College Algebra before Stat 1200 & Psych 3010 with C or better before Psy 3020 with C or better before the Capstone
Lab. We make NO exceptions to the research methods sequence requirements regardless of circumstances – plan on at least four semesters to complete the
sequence. (MU does offer Stat 1200, Psych 3010, 3020, and Capstone during the summer sessions.) We encourage you to complete both MATH 120 College Algebra
(= Math 1100 at MU) and MATH 115 Statistics (= Stat 1200 or 1300 at MU) before you begin your studies at MU.
Math Reasoning Proficiency (MRP) Course Requirement:
Students planning to transfer to MU with a completed AA degree via the Metropolitan Community College are not required to complete an MRP course, so if you
plan to transfer to MU after you complete your AA degree, you can disregard this section.
Students transferring to MU without a completed AA degree from MCC will be required to take an MRP-designated course in order to graduate from MU. An MRP
course is a course that has College Algebra as a pre-requisite.

If you plan to wait to complete Statistics 1200 at MU, the course will meet the MRP requirement, and will also count toward the nine credit hours needed
in the “Biological/Physical/Mathematical Sciences” general education foundation category.

If you plan to complete “Math 115: Statistics” at MCC, please note that the course will not meet MU’s MRP course requirement because it does not have
College Algebra as a pre-requisite, so you will need to take a designated MRP course via MCC or at MU. Math 115 will meet the statistics requirement for
the psychology major, but the course will not meet the MRP requirement, and the course cannot count toward the nine hours needed in the
“Biological/Physical/Mathematical Sciences” general education foundation category. The course will count toward the hours needed for graduation. Go
here for a list of approved MRP courses at MCC. Follow this link to a list of approved MRP courses at MU– the most popular option for psychology majors
is “Financial Planning 2183: Personal and Family Finance”: http://generaleducation.missouri.edu/requirements/math/index.php
The MRP requirement can be confusing, so please ask your academic advisor if you have questions!
Foreign Language Requirement:
A single foreign language sequence is required by the College of Arts & Science for the psychology major. We encourage you to complete the entire sequence either
at Metropolitan Community College, or at MU. If you plan to complete this requirement at MU, plan for three semesters for a 13-hour sequence (e.g., Span 1100 (5
hours), 1200 (5), 2100 (3). 12-hour sequences run fall to spring only, plan at least two semesters (fall to spring). If you plan to complete this requirement at
Metropolitan Community College, please check the course equivalency information below. Foreign language can be confusing, so ask your advisor if you have
questions.

French 1100 at MU = FREN 101 Elem French I (5), 1200 = FREN 102 Elem French II (5), 2100 = FREN 203 Interm French I (3) (12-13 hours total)

German 1100 at MU = GERM 101 Elem German (5), 1200 = GERM 102 German II (5), 2100 = GERM 203 Interm German I (3) (12-13 hours total)

Span 1100 at MU = SPAN 101 Elem Span I (5), SPAN 111 Accel Elem Span (3), SPAN 212 & 214 Spanish Immersion I & 2 (6), 1200 = SPAN 102 Elem Span II
(5) or SPAN 216 Span Immersion III (3), and 2100 = SPAN 203 Interm Span I (3) or SPAN 218 Span Immersion IV (3) (12-13 hours total)
Graduation Requirements:

Psychology majors must complete at least 120 credit hours to earn the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

To graduate with the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, at least 12 credit hours of 2000-level psychology courses must be completed at MU.

In order to graduate, at least 30 of the final 36 credit hours before graduation must be completed in MU coursework. Students may transfer in up to 6
hours of coursework within the last 36 credit hours before you graduate.

In order to graduate, psychology majors must have a cum GPA of 2.0 or better, as well as a 2.0 GPA in the last 30 and the last 60 hours of coursework
before graduation.
