US Army Corps of Engineers Resources for Dam Safety Professionals Part 2 Programs and other resources Daniel J. Rodriguez Dam Safety Program Manager 19 February 2014 National Technical Seminar # 21 Part 2 EMI, Emmitsburg, MD US Army Corps of Engineers BUILDING STRONG® 1 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works Involvement ► The US Army Corps of Engineers is a Federal Agency under the Department of the Army. Because much of what is created by the Corps it is available to the citizens of the United States of America. There are many exceptions which are due to safety and security concern, and sometime due to licensing agreements. 2 BUILDING STRONG® Agenda ► Information Analysis Centers ► Hydrologic Engineering Center ► National Inventory of Dams ► Forms for Technical Professionals 3 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers Information Analysis Centers ► Soil mechanics Information Analysis Center (SMIAC) ► Hydraulic Engineering Information Analysis Center (HEIAC) ► Coastal Engineering Information Analysis Center (CEIAC) ► Environmental Information Analysis Center (EIAC) 4 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers Information Analysis Centers ► Concrete Technology Information Analysis Center (CTIAC) ► Airfields, Pavements and Mobility Information Analysis Center (APMIAC) ► Cold Regions Science and Technology Information Analysis Center (CRSTIAC) ► Shock and Vibration Information Analysis Center (SAVIAC) 5 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers Soil Mechanics Information Analysis Center (SMIAC) ► SMIAC is one of eight Corps of Engineers information centers managed or sponsored by ERDC. It was established in 1966 to acquire, analyze, evaluate, condense, and disseminate the world's literature in the subject areas of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, engineering geology, seismology, geophysics, hydrogeology, and earthquake engineering 6 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers History 7 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers HEIAC HEIAC is supported by ERDC CHL’s multidisciplinary technical staff of engineers, scientists, equipment specialists, and other technical personnel who establish and maintain historical, technical, scientific, and other information collected throughout the world that is pertinent to hydraulic engineering. Expertise is offered in areas of estuaries, hydraulic structures, open-channel flow and sedimentation, dredging research, navigation channel design, operations and management techniques, computer-aided engineering and modeling, hydrologic research, and hydraulic Geographic Information Systems (GIS) database development. 8 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers CEIAC The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory (CHL), Coastal Engineering Information Analysis Center (CEIAC), Vicksburg, MS, provides quick referrals to, and establishes contact with, leading authorities in various areas of technical expertise in coastal engineering. CEIAC is utilized by a diverse clientele including government and private industry researchers, engineers, program managers, students, and others interested in the broad field of coastal engineering and science. 9 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers Hydraulic Engineering Center 10 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers The Hydrologic Engineering Center (HEC), an organization within the Institute for Water Resources, is the designated Center of Expertise for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the technical areas of surface and groundwater hydrology, river hydraulics and sediment transport, hydrologic statistics and risk analysis, reservoir system analysis, planning analysis, real-time water control management and a number of other closely associated technical subjects. HEC supports Corps field offices, headquarters, and laboratories by providing technical methods and guidance, water resources models and associated utilities, training and workshops, accomplishing research and development, and performing technical assistance and special projects. The products that are developed from these activities are for the Corps but are available to the public and may be freely downloaded from this web site. 11 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers Hydraulic Engineering Center HEC Telephone: (530) 756-1104 HEC Fax: (530) 756-8250 Webmaster E-mail Address: WebmasterHEC@usace.army.mil Mailing Address: Department of The Army Corps of Engineers Institute for Water Resources Hydrologic Engineering Center 609 Second Street Davis, CA 95616-4687 12 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers Hydraulic Engineering Center Latest Software Releases HEC-ResSim 3.1 HEC-GeoHMS 10.1 HEC-GeoRAS 10.1 HEC-GeoEFM 1.0 HEC-EFM 3.0 HEC-EFM Plotter 1.1 HEC-FIA 2.2 (Provisional) HEC-RPT 2.0 HEC-ResPRM 1.0 (Provisional) 13 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers Hydraulic Engineering Center 14 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers Hydraulic Engineering Center 15 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers Hydraulic Engineering Center 16 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers Hydraulic Engineering Center 17 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers Hydraulic Engineering Center 18 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers Hydraulic Engineering Center 19 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers Hydraulic Engineering Center 20 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers Hydraulic Engineering Center 21 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers Hydraulic Engineering Center 22 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers National Inventory of Dams ► http://geo.usace.army.mil/pgis/f?p=397:1:101216 3073496201NID • You can get onto the NID and see some information without having an account • You can see the a limited amount of information on the State Dams. • You can get a count of the dams and the names of the dams without a log in. • You can peruse the NID summary information without an login • "Forgot Password" functionality a new password will be randomly generated clicking the Forgot Password tab by clicking here. 23 BUILDING STRONG® National Inventory of Dams 24 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers National Inventory of Dams 25 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers National Inventory of Dams 26 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers National Inventory of Dams 27 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers Forms ► List • • • • • • of Engineer Forms Report of Operations -- Hopper Dredges ENG 27 Soil Sample Label ENG 1742 Soil Sample Tag ENG 1743 Drilling Log ENG 1836 Gradation Curves ENG 2087 Consolidation Test - Time Curves ENG 2088 28 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers Soil Sample Tag 29 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers Drill Log 30 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers Gradation Curves 31 BUILDING STRONG® US Army Corps of Engineers Consolidation Test-Time Curves 32 BUILDING STRONG® End US Army Corps of Engineers BUILDING STRONG® 33 BUILDING STRONG®
