The Hampshire Door Company
“Throughout my years as a craftsman, I regularly witnessed meticulously planned
interiors and it occurred to me that often, the property exterior is neglected in
favour of the internal living space. The exterior is however what identifies your
property - an image, the kerb appeal – it’s where first impressions about you
and your home are created. It is fundamentally the ‘face’ of your property.
I felt quite passionately about this, so established The Hampshire Door Company
to provide an accessible service where a replacement front door didn’t mean
staying in for multiple surveyors, or engaging many different trades and security
experts to make, paint and fit the door.
I wanted to provide a service offering a complete new front door and frame set,
handmade from solid timbers using traditional joinery methods that would not
only showcase the entrance to any home, but also provide a secure, thermally
efficient and long-lasting door.
When I founded The Hampshire Door Company, I believed in a set of principles
that I felt were the minimum that my customers should expect of me; principles that
were increasingly disappearing. I therefore started with the following beliefs:
- The quality of my doors will be second to none – I will be proud of my product
- All of my doors will be manufactured from solid timber from sustainable sources
- All of the doors will be handmade to order in the workshop
- I will take pride in the service provided, with each of my customers being happy
to recommend me to others
By following this set of core principles, from the very beginning, we continue
to thrive as an honest and trustworthy company. Whilst I continue today to
champion ‘showcase’ front doors, we have extended our range to other exterior
doors, including folding/sliding doors, French doors, as well as interior doors.
My team of joiners, designers and assistants are also door advocates who
appreciate and share the same values and passion as I did, and continue to
do so today”

Traditional
This page highlights our traditional door designs with the features offered in this style set. The door
can be designed to match the period & style of the property, with consideration often taken to the
theme of the local area.
Mouldings
Mouldings play a significant part in
defining the style of the door. The
bolection mould is typical of the
Victorian period, whereas the
versatility of the simple ovolo mould
can feel modern or aged with the
right selection of ironmongery.
Ovolo
Small Bolection
Panel
Bolection
Typically we use the ovolo mould
on the inside of the door panels
which provides extra security,
thermal efficiency and draught
proofing for your door.
Panels
Like the mouldings, panels form an
important feature of any door. Our
popular panels compliment most
traditional door styles, but any
bespoke request is available.
Glass
Need more light? All our traditional
door panels can be glazed instead
of solid timber. Page 10 illustrates the
various glazing options available for
your door.
Timber
For traditional painted doors, our
timber of choice is Accoya. The
ability of this timber to absorb
moisture is restricted making it a
durable and dimensionally stable
option over tropical hardwoods. For
unpainted doors we recommend
Euro Oak for its great dimensional
stability and durability.
Frame
We can manufacture the sill as part
of the frame or without it to
incorporate an existing stone sill.
Each door is different, but for
excellent draught proofing we
usually use a stormguard threshold
sill. To draught-proof a door with a
stone sill, we use a mechanical drop
down seal that is recessed into the
base of your door.

Fielded
The structure of our panels feature
solid timber panels either side of an
insulated polyurethane core. This
method of manufacture provides the
door with excellent thermal efficiency.

Cottage
These styles and features showcase our cottage range of door and door sets. Each cottage is
different to the next, and we want that to show in our doors.

Contemporary
The door and features shown below are associated with our contemporary range. We achieve
this through our designs and our choice of timber and ironmongery.
Timber
Panels
Our contemporary doors are
typically made from Euro Oak,
however we occasionally use
Accoya. Oak is a wonderful
timber to use because of its
detailed grain pattern and
fantastic dimensional stability.
The construction of these doors

insulation and give the finished
door a contemporary feel

Further Details
Wonderfully thought out, beautifully designed and expertly manufactured, our timber doors aim to
please. This page highlights smaller details about your new door that you may wish to know about.
AQUAMAC DRAUGHT SEAL
Our frames include a rebate that holds the Aquamac 21 Draught seal
which is the market leader in door and window seals. Aqumac has a resilient,
non-stretch, non-shrinking cellular core, with a low friction, non-grab outer
sheath to prevent it sticking to the door or frame. It has an excellent memory,
can withstand temperatures above 70° C and below -30° C, and is not
affected by paint or stains.
INSULATION
Our standard doors are 57mm thick which provides excellent thermal efficiency.
Any panels have a polyurethane insulation core to keep the heat in. The glass
panels we use in our doors include a warm edge spacer that prevents the
cold reaching the internal pane of glass (see page 14).
STORMGUARD WEATHER SILL
The weather sill is part of the frame that we manufacture. It’s shape forces any
residual water to run off and away from the door set to help prevent damage.
The sill also compromises either an Aquamac draught seal, or a drop down
seal to stop any draughts coming in under the door.
INTERNAL BEADING
Some of our door styles have glazing bars. These bars are manufactured in our
workshop and attached to the glass. The beads are typically ovolo mouldings,
however can be matched to the rest of the door or specifically manufactured.
HINGES
We use 3, Grade 13 Fire Rated hinges on
our external doors to provide ultimate safety
and security for your home. For stable doors
we use 2 Grade 13 hinges per leaf.

Frames
At The Hampshire Door Company, we manufacture every door with a new frame unless specified.
As part of the manufacturing process, we pre-hang your door in its new frame. This allows us to fit
the security locks and ironmongery before applying the finish in your chosen colour, or colours.
There are various options for your door
starting from just a frame to double
sidelights and fanlight above. Similar
to the door style options, we offer a
bespoke service, therefore if you would
like something slightly different, we can
manufacture it for you.
As standard we offer these
options for each panel in
the sidelight or fanlight. The
mouldings used are also
the same options as on the
traditional doors on page 3.
The illustrations below highlight the popular standard frames and
features. A sidelight is typically manufactured to look like half of
your door, so for example, a Romsey door would therefore have
two panels in the sidelights, whereas a Newbury would have 3. A
contemporary door sidelight might however have a single plain
or satin glazed panel.

Folding - Sliding Doors
Our folding-sliding doors, manufactured from solid timber and double glazed units are a beautiful addition to
a room. The design can be simple, contemporary, or more traditional to match the style of the property. We can
manufacture a variety of designs so please just let us know if you’d like something slightly different.
The timber we commonly use is Accoya because of its dimensional stability, fantastic durability and adaptability.
For unpainted doors we use Euro Oak if you’re after a more natural timber look. (see page 15 for more information)
Folding-Sliding Doors
Mechanism Overview
PC Henderson Securefold ultra is the mechanism that we
use for our folding-sliding doors. The Securefold ultra comes
in a variety of finishes to compliment other door furniture. It is
very durable with most of the parts being made from grade
361 stainless steel, anodised aluminium track and polymers,
and being tested to over 100,000 cycles. The materials
and testing mean that it offers an unprecedented working
life even in areas along the coast.
Guarantee
The Securefold ultra is guaranteed for 10 years due to its
high quality components and unique design and Accoya
has a lifetime guarantee providing you with a fantastic
working door set guaranteed for a minimum of 10 years
Our Doors
The high security locking system, outstanding weather
resistance, maximum corrosion resistance, many opening
variations, precision bearings and easy installation of the
Securefold ultra compliment our timber doors perfectly.
Together, the mechanism and the doors provide a secure,
weatherproof, outstanding feature door set for your home.

Other Door Styles
In addition to our front and folding-sliding doors, we offer an extensive range of back doors, patio doors,
French windows, shed doors and internal doors. These can be similar to the existing style or unique designs that
are sympathetic to your property.
Our timber of choice for external folding-sliding doors, patio doors and French windows would be Accoya or
Euro Oak. For interiors doors however, where weather tolerance is not an issue, we would use sapele or tulipwood.
Patio & French Doors
By design both patio doors & French doors typically feature a
larger glass to timber ratio. We use a thermally efficient double
glazed unit with warm edge spacers which act as a thermal
break between the interior and the exterior panes of glass.
Shed Doors
We normally manufacture our shed doors as vertical paneled
doors with a ‘z’ bar frame across the back for increased
security. These doors can also have a glass unit if you wish.
Interior Doors
The designs of our interior doors are similar to our standard
set of designs. These doors however would be manufactured
from a different timber because the climate doesn’t need
to be taken into account internally, and would usually be
manufactured from 35mm thick timber.
Back Doors
Similar to the interior doors, the styles that we commonly use for
these doors are similar to our cottage doors, however it does
vary by property. Our contemporary and traditional styles can
also be used as back doors with a little variation.
The Hampshire Door Company - 01794 874521

Timber
Natural timbers are an excellent material for both external and internal furniture, doors, windows and features.
The timbers we use are very dimensionally stable and will last a lifetime. Wood is 100% renewable, easily
maintained, has an elegant appearance and feel, and is tough enough to endure today’s harsh climate.
ACCOYA®
Accoya is from a fast
growing source, and has
been thoroughly tested for
dimensional stability, durability,
UV resistance, paint retention
and in-ground conditions to
ensure optimal performance.
We only use Accoya from
certified, sustainably managed plantations (FSC,
PEFC, EUTR) from around the world. During production
in the Netherlands, Accoya undergoes a non-toxic
acetylation process that alters the enzymes, creating
incredible dimensional stability and up to 70 years of
durability*. We typically use this timber for our traditional
and cottage doors.
EURO OAK
Euro Oak is light tan in colour
and has a detailed, silver
grey figure on quarter sawn.
It can vary from ‘character
grade’, which is very detailed
and knotted to ‘prime grade’
which has a particularly fine
grain structure. We use
FSC & PEFC certified timber that is durable and
will last for many years. Typically we use Euro
Oak for our contemporary door sets, and some
of our cottage doors, however because we
provide a bespoke service, you can pick your
timber as easily as you can pick the style.
TRICOYA
Medite Tricoya is an extremely
durable medium density
fibreboard (MDF) that has
numerous applications.
Tricoya undergoes an
acetylation process similar
to Accoya, which alters the
chemical make up of the
panel. These chemicals called
‘free-hydroxyls’ absorb and release water according
to the climate. The acetyl in the process greatly
reduces the timbers’ ability to absorb moisture, and
therefore dramatically increases its dimensional
stability and durability. The acetyl that is added
to the timber doesn’t add any more toxins to the
environment, because ‘acetyl groups’ are already
present in timber.** We use Tricoya as a thermal
layer, and for extra stability in our contemporary
doors
13
TULIPWOOD
Tulipwood is a Brazilian
pale wood with yellow, pink
and red colourations to the
fine grain. It is a softwood
substitute and is commonly used for cabinet
making. It is stable, often knot free and available
in long lengths, making it particularly useful for the
interior cabinets we manufacture.
SAPELE
Sapele is a tropical
hardwood, similar in colour
to mahogany. It can be
used on external door sets,
but isn’t as dimensionally stable as Oak or
Accoya. Therefore with the introduction of
Accoya, we only use it if requested for internal
doors or furniture.

Glass
Many of our doors are available with glass vision panels. If you wish to have a vision panel in your chosen
design we have a number of options available for you.
Double Glazed Unit
We fit our doors with a 24mm thick double glazed unit.
The 24mm consists of 2 pieces of toughened 4mm glass
sandwiched into a sealed unit with a sealed 16mm internal
cavity. This cavity is filled with argon gas for good insulation,
and each single pane of glass has a low-e coating. These
coatings minimize the amount of UV and infrared light that
can pass through the glass without compromising the amount
of visible light transmitted. Each glass panel comprises of a
warm-edge spacer that separates the single panes and
helps to stop the cold transmitting through the glass.
Glass Style Options
We provide various options for your glazed units, as you
illustrated on the right hand side of this page. Clear and satin
are the most popular choices, however sandblasted glass
is commonly used in fanlights with a house name or number
etched into it. We can also provide bullseye, or simulated
leaded glass for your door, each providing a good level of
obscurity and detail to your door.

Patterned Glass

Factory Finish
Bespoke Service
Factory Finish
As part of the manufacturing process, we factory
finish your door to a colour of your choice with
a 30% sheen. Commonly your chosen colour is
used for the exterior of the door, and white for
the frame and interior of the door, however it is
totally up to you.
Our finishing process is totally
bespoke to each client, so we can
paint a contemporary door, lacquer
a traditional one, or simply prime and
leave them for you to finish yourself.
Accoya Doors
European Oak Doors
Typically we paint our Accoya doors with the
specially formulated paint from Teknos. We
finish our traditional and some of our cottage
style doors in a standard 2-colour 30% sheen
finish in specially formulated Teknos paint, which
has been technically formulated to withstand
exterior use.
We finish all our Oak doors in Osmo
UV Protection Oil.
Weathering fades the natural colour
of wood over time, but this protection
oil is developed to resist against this,
therefore maintaining the timber’s
natural appearance. It is oil-based
and microporus meaning that it
does not crack, flake or peel. It offers
dirt resistance as well as moisture
regulation, perfect for exterior use.
Paint Technology
Teknos combine preservation technology
with protective base coats and a flexible
microporus system which then allows us to meet
European performance standards for the finish
on your new door
“Teknos Total Factory
Applied Protection
(TFAP) systems allow
joinery manufacturers to
produce fully engineered
exterior joinery, with almost
unlimited colour choice,
in a single integrated
finishing process.”

Directions
We have our own workshop in the heart of Hampshire where
we design and create your dream door. Working in the heart
of a large county has its advantages - beautiful area, fresh
air, no traffic - and its disadvantages - narrow lanes and miles
from everywhere. Here are some directions to use should you
wish to come up and pay us a visit to talk about a new door
or to have a look at our current selection.
Please remember that we offer a bespoke
service, so although we do have a selection
of doors in our showroom, it is very small. We
are however very friendly and would love to
chat about designing your door if you wish to

Process & Fitting
PROCESS
If you wish to purchase a door, contact us
and we will create an estimate for you. We
ask for you to confirm the details and we’ll
then set up a 50% deposit invoice to secure
a production slot, after which we will send out
someone to complete a survey to confirm
dimensions and further details.
FITTING
When purchasing a door set, we offer to fit
your new door and frame as part of our full
service. We will remove the old frame, and
install the new door set for you.
PRE-HANG
As part of the manufacturing process we
pre-hang your door in the frame in order
to measure up for the locks and to fit the
hinges. If you purchase a new door without
a new frame, we can still fit your door into
the existing frame on-site using our own tools
and methods.
DELIVERY
If you do not require us to fit it, or already
have a fitter in mind, we can deliver the door
to your home in time for it to be fitted.
We will travel to your home to fit your
door after the survey has been taken,
manufacturing has been completed, and
the deposit has been paid.
Contact Details
If you wish to order a new door, door set
or window, please don’t hesitate to get in
contact. We are a very friendly team and
will always be happy to help you find the
