Section 3: Hazards Identification
Emergency Overview: There are no known acute or chronic health hazards associated with exposure to this material. Section 4: First Aid Measures
Ingestion: No specific intervention is indicated as compound is not likely to be hazardous by ingestion. Skin: Wash affected area with soap and water. Inhalation: Leave the exposure area and obtain fresh air. Eyes: Flush eyes thoroughly with clean, low pressure water. NOTE: Molten resin can cause severe thermal burns which may require expert emergency attention. In all cases, a physician should be contacted if irritation persists. Section 5: Fire and Explosion Data
Flash Point: N/A Auto‐ignition Temperature: N/A Extinguishing Media: Water is the best extinguishing medium. Fire‐Fighting Instructions: Wear self‐contained breathing apparatus. Unusual Fire/Explosion Hazards: This material will support combustion when exposed to an external fire source. Precautions similar to those with wood and other combustible materials are recommended. These pellets do not present a dust explosion hazard. Operations such as regrinding or machining should be periodically checked for proper maintenance of dust control devices. Hazardous Gases/Vapors Produced in a Fire: The primary toxic product of combustion from this material is carbon monoxide. Carbon dioxide and oxides of nitrogen are also produced. Incomplete combustion (a smoldering fire, for example) may release caprolactam and volatile oligomers. Small amounts of hydrogen cyanide have also been reported. Nylon 6 [Poly(caprolactam)]‐Catalog Number – 034 P a g e | 1 Section 6: Accidental Release Measures
Resin pellets spilled on floors are a slipping hazard. Sweep, shovel or vacuum spilled resin into container for reuse or disposal. Section 7: Handling and Storage
Handling: Storage: Minimize the generation and accumulation of dust. Store in a cool, dry place. Keep containers tightly closed to prevent moisture absorption and contamination. Section 8: Exposure Controls/Personal Protection
Engineering Measures: Respiratory Protection: Eye Protection: Skin Protection: Local exhaust ventilation is recommended Self‐contained breathing equipment, if needed for fire‐fighting. Safety glasses with side shields. Insulated gloves to prevent contact with hot polymer. Section 9: Physical and Chemical Properties
