PRINCIPAL DIRECTOR GENERAL OF INCOME-TAX (LOGISTICS)
A.
About the Directorate
The office of Principal Director General of Income Tax (Logistics) is an attached office of
the Central Board of Direct Taxes under the control of Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India.
There are five Directorates and one Research and Statistics Wing which are under the
administrative control of the Principal Director General of Income Tax (Logistics).
These are:
I.
Business Process Re-engineering
II.
Expenditure Budget
III.
Infrastructure – I
IV.
Infrastructure – II
V.
Organization & Management Services
VI.
Research & Statistics Wing

The Principal Director General (Logistics) coordinates the activities of the aforesaid
five Directorates as well as Research and Statistics Wing. These Directorates and the
Research and Statistics Wing provide vital policy input to the CBDT in the areas of tax
Administration, Infrastructure and Expenditure.

Broadly the Directorates functioning under the Principal Director General of Income
Tax (Logistics) perform the following functions:
I.
Business Process Re-engineering : The Directorate is instrumental in the smooth
implementation of recommendations of the BPR Report.
II.
Expenditure Budget : The Directorate is mandated to act as the Nodal Authority in
respect of all Expenditure Budget matters for Grant No. 43 dealing with Direct
Taxes and to perform all work related to the management of Expenditure Budget.
III.
Infrastructure – I : The Directorate looks after all the Infrastructure requirements
of the Income Tax Department relating to office and residential buildings,
vehicles, telephones, laptops, etc. Its jurisdiction is broadly the North and South
of India as well as National Academy of Direct Taxes at Nagpur.
IV.
Infrastructure

The
Directorate
looks
after
all
the
Infrastructure
requirements of the Income Tax Department relating to office and residential
buildings, vehicles, telephones, laptops, etc. Its jurisdiction is broadly the West
and East of India.
V.
Organization & Management Services : The Directorate functions as an internal
management consultant of the CBDT. It is the nodal agency for the Aaykar Sewa
Kendras.
VI.
Research & Statistics Wing : The Wing compiles and analyzes the performance
statistics based on progress reports and allied data sent by the field offices.
4.
All Policy and Administrative matters concerning the aforesaid Directorates are
overseen by the Pr. DGIT(Logistics).
