Ferrous metal recovery
As one of the leading companies in the UK metal recycling industry we handle and process
in excess of one million tonnes of ferrous metals each year. The company prides itself in
producing highest grade secondary raw materials that meet both national and international
specifications.
For many years the company has
adopted a policy of investing in the
very best and latest technology to
enable us to enhance the quality of
our products and the services we
provide. To this end our numerous
sites throughout the UK operate a
comprehensive range of efficient
processing plant including large
shears, new production and
general balers and a mega
shredder.
We pride ourselves in being able to
match our suppliers’ material with
the best available markets
worldwide. This allows us to
maximise our suppliers’ revenue.
We are able to supply significant
quantities of both steelworks and
foundry grade material for sale to
UK, European and global markets.
The company has adopted strict
environmental, quality and
management systems which have
been implemented throughout the
group with many of our sites
achieving ISO 9001, 14001 and
18001 accreditation. We are
subject to regular external audits by
both the certificating bodies and
many of our larger suppliers and
customers.
Our flexible and proactive approach
towards suppliers’ and customers’
business needs allows us to
provide bespoke engineering and
site services in tandem with our
engineering support providers
to include the design, installation
and maintenance of balers,
conveyors and designated waste
management areas.
In many instances we provide
onsite staff dedicated to our
suppliers’ requirements and arrange
training for suppliers’ staff where
they interact with our own
employees or use equipment
provided by us.

Non-Ferrous recovery
As one of the UK’s leading recycling companies we handle and process in excess of 150,000
tonnes of non-ferrous metals each year. We supply a full range of non ferrous metals and
alloys to leading refineries and smelters in the UK, Europe and worldwide.
In addition to significant quantities
of material purchased at our sites
from small businesses and members
of the public, we purchase large
quantities of material from the
demolition industry and as arisings
from the industrial sector. We also
produce specific grades of material
from our shredder operation and
downstream separation process.
By investing in the latest technology,
our expert staff are able to identify
the content and grade of a wide
range of material to enable us to
provide quality products to end
users and maximise our suppliers’
revenue by matching the material
with the best markets worldwide.
By offering both non-ferrous and
ferrous expertise at all of our major
sites we are able to provide a
comprehensive service to suppliers.
The company has adopted strict
environmental, quality and
management systems which have
been implemented throughout the
group with many of our sites
achieving ISO 9001, 14001, 18001
accreditation. We are subject to

Demolition Scrap Services
Metal & Waste Recycling is equipped and organised to provide a comprehensive service to
demolition contractors. A number of our depots are equipped with the latest heavy duty shears
to convert demolition scrap into valuable processed scrap for use by foundries and steelworks.
Metal & Waste Recycling owns a
fleet of over 100 transport vehicles
including roll on/off, skip lorrys and
containers geared up to provide
prompt collections from demolition
sites. The company has the

assist in the speediest and most
demanding short notice clearance

We have an experienced
commercial team who can survey
all of your industrial clearance
needs and can arrange suitable
methods, containers, vehicles and
all associated waste management,
waste carriers’ permits and licences
required to efficiently clear your
industrial scrap and waste.
Alternatively, we have mobile plant

processing demolition scrap to
more manageable sizes prior to
leaving site.

Waste Electrical and
Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
The WEEE regulations 2006
(SI3259) are UK regulations that we
have adopted and implemented
since the Waste and Electrical and
Electronic Equipment Directive was
adopted by the EC in 2003
(2002/96/EC and 2003/108/EC).
In addition to our obligatory waste
management and treatment
licences Metal & Waste Recycling
are able to offer bespoke closed
loop solutions for WEEE treatment
on a nationwide basis to BATRRT
(Best Available Treatment Recovery
& Recycling Techniques) and have
been approved by the Environment
Agency as an Approved Exporter
(AE) and have a number of
Approved Authorised Treatment
Facilities (AATFs).
As AATFs and as an AE we issue
evidence notes against the tonnage
of WEEE received or exported
from the date of approval, through
the rest of the compliance period,
up to and including 31 January
of the following year with full
auditable records.

End of life Vehicles (ELV)
The End of Life Vehicle Regulations 2003 and 2004 dramatically changed the way in which
cars and some other classes of vehicles should be properly disposed of at the end of their life.
Metal & Waste Recycling, as one of the leading metal recyclers in the UK, embraced the new
regulations and set up a number of Authorised Treatment Facilities (ATFs).
The company is a founder member
of and shareholder in
Cartakeback.com, a nationwide
organisation created to provide the
public and those involved in the
sale of motor cars and motor
manufacturers with a fully compliant
and auditable disposal route.
End of Life Vehicles can only be
disposed of at ATF’s. At our ATF
sites vehicles are treated and
de-polluted in accordance with the
regulations and certificates of
destruction produced utilising the
DVLA direct link. The de-polluted
vehicles are sent to our shredder
operation where they are
fragmentised. The product is sorted
into its different constituents
comprising ferrous metals, various
grades of non-ferrous metals,
plastics, rubber and glass.
A full audit trail from the receipt of
vehicles to the re-introduction of
material back into the industrial
chain can be provided.

Sales/Containers/Exports
Metal & Waste Recycling has the benefit of being able to service all markets worldwide.
Material is sold for delivery by road and rail to steelworks, foundries and smelters in the UK
and parts of Western Europe.
Metal & Waste Recycling also
exports material by short-sea to
Europe in vessels of up to 5,000
tonnes from its two dock facilities at
Barking and Seaham and by
container to anywhere in the world.
We have made a significant
investment in container loaders and
bespoke container loading facilities
to enable us to provide large
tonnages to our customers,
particularly to the Indian
subcontinent and
the Far East.
The company has a specialist
export department which works
closely with the group’s customers
and sales teams to provide secure
and reliable revenues.
We develop strong and lasting
relationships with our customers,
optimizing the quality of the materials
we sell to maximise revenue for both
supplier and customers.
Wherever possible, the company
aims to move material in a way that
reduces its carbon footprint and
minimises the environmental impact
of the company’s activities.
The company prides itself on being
the winner of The Queen’s Award
for Enterprise 2005 for
International Trade.

Total Waste Management

complement the existing services
being offered by the group.

and have helped some of our major
international customers to win
awards for their achievements in
this field.
