POP 2016: CALL FOR IDEAS This is a quick pitch designed so we can hear your ideas. Don’t over think. Rather than a full proposal we are looking for intial concepts that can be further formed into a full POP proposal. What is your POP idea? A POP project can be anything. It could be an installation, a performance, a dance, a happening, or a music event. Where could it go? POP projects are temporary; we are looking to activate different parts of the city. Projects could pop up in a park, an alleyway, a wall, or an open urban space. How will people interact? POP projects are fun, surprising and free. We want people to participate in the work, and in doing so change the way they think about their city, environment and art. Who are you? Give us your name and contact email. ABOUT POP POP’s mission is to create happenings, things, spectacles, ideas, performances, connections, and experiences in your neighbourhood. POP exists to make fun, unite strangers, fuse creativity and create an instant community on every street corner. Some of these projects are annual, some monthly, others infrequent and anytime, all are designed to create a crowd, and for you to enjoy the moment. What is POP? The aim of POP is to generate positive social outcomes by using creativity as a vehicle through which Auckland becomes a safer, happier and more connected place to live, work and play; and to offer new ways for people to perceive places and each other. A POP project can be created by anyone and can be anything that makes Auckland city and its neighbourhoods a more enjoyable and inspiring place to live. Accessibility, visibility and generosity are all key aspects of POP. Who is POP? POP is generously funded and supported by the Waitematā Local Board. The POP concept, design and narrative was created to unite a series of temporary art activities under a singular visual umbrella. A range of artists have collaborated with Auckland Council to design and deliver individual projects produced under the POP banner. Call for Ideas If you have an idea that you think would make a great POP 2016 project, the POP team would like to hear about it. Funding is available to support projects that fit POP’s criteria of generosity, fun, memorability, creativity, engagement and place-activation; and align with the Waitematā Local Board’s priorities regarding environment, community participation and placemaking.
