TRAINING AND ASSESSMENT STRATEGY 22129VIC – Certificate I in Transition Education (Part Only) Qualification OVERVIEW 22129VIC – Certificate I in Transition Education Summary The Certificate I in Transition Education is designed for a range of learners with a disability or with significant evidence of a disability or special learning needs which impact on their learning. The qualification focus is on providing post school educational options for people who have special learning needs. This qualification program delivered by AST is designed to enhance the life and employability skills of existing supported employees and those seeking employment with All Star Access Disability Enterprises (ASADE) Target group The target groups include: • People employed within ASADE supported employment business units. • Young people with a disability who have completed their compulsory school education with a low skills base resulting in barriers to gaining or maintaining employment. Delivery period The qualification will be offered on starting dates from early Feb to Dec 2013 and from early July 2013 until End of June 2014. Attendance pattern This qualification is offered on PART TIME basis, usually 5.5 hours a day, 3 days a week over a period of 42 weeks between the hours of 9:00 – 12:00 and 13:00 – 15:30 There are no entry, pre-requisites or legislative and regulatory requirements for this qualification. Entry requirements Selection Selection will be based on a pre-enrolment interview. This will determine interest and suitability of the applicant for the program. Applicants will be encouraged to discuss their needs in relation to their training participation Individual needs will be documented in the Pre-Training & Special Needs Checklist and held within the individuals training file. Learner needs Strategies to address any identified special needs will be developed prior to commencement of training in line with qualification requirements and within available resources. 3 days per week, 5.5 hours per day (may vary unit to unit) for 42 weeks. Approximately 695 hours faceto-face. There are 315 hours of self directed learning activities that may be completed on site at AST or at off site locations. To be awarded the full 22129VIC CI in Transition Education participants must be assessed as competent in a total of ten units of competency. That is six core units and four elective units. Interactive individual and group based activities will be a key feature of the delivery model with strong emphasis on a structured teacher centered learning model. Training and assessment of each unit will be sequential in nature with the units clustered for delivery and assessment as below: Cluster 1 VU20444 Investigate future options for further training, work or community activities and VU20453 Apply communication for a range of purposes. Cluster 2. VU20446V Use technology for a range of purposes and BQU168 Access the Internet for Language Learning. Stand Alone All other units will be delivered and assessed as stand alone single units. Training sequence The training sequence is shown on the Training Program Schedule on Page 4. Assessment summary The AST 22129VIC Assessment Pack outlines assessment requirements and provides the assessment tools and instruments. Candidates will be provided with a summary of assessment requirements in the 22129VIC CI in Transition Education flyer and the 22129VIC Learner Assessment Information sheet. Assessments for each Unit of Competency generally consist of the following: Formative assessment throughout each unit will involve: group exercises and written tasks (in classroom setting) demonstration of practical tasks observed by the assessor (classroom, placements and computer laboratory) oral or written questioning and recording of responses (classroom and computer laboratory). Final (summative) assessment tasks: Assessment Task 1: Portfolio containing written responses from learning activities (AST developed response sheets). A completed Practical Activities Log. Assessment Task 2: Oral or written test involving responses to True/False options, multiple choice questions. Assessment will test retention of knowledge and skills required by the 22129VIC CI in Transition Education units of competency including critical aspects of assessment. Tests to be completed within set timeframes. Assessment Task 3: Demonstration/observation of the skills required for each unit of competency. Assessment will be observed by the assessor and outcomes recorded on an observation checklist. Structured questions will be asked of the candidate to check knowledge and communication skills, with this recorded on the observation checklist. Resources General training resources include: Fully equipped training room DVD and OHP presentation equipment Computer Laboratory. Specific key training resources and assessment instruments and tools for each unit or cluster are listed in the Training Program Schedule on Page 4 of this document. Trainers will develop additional resources to suit the particular student cohort and training context. Reasonable adjustments Trainers/assessors are required to consider and allow reasonable adjustments in line with the AST Learning and Assessment Strategies policy and within available resources. Adjustments will relate to a student’s identified needs, and will promote the attainment of units while ensuring unit requirements are met. Reasonable adjustments could include (but might not be limited to) flexible attendance; one-on-one additional tutoring; verbal responses to assessment tasks; and extended time for assessment tasks. Assessors will complete an Assessor Validation and Moderation Self Assessment Tool (RTOFOR 02.1 & 3) 2. Assessors submit the self assessment record and collected evidence samples to the Training Manager for de-identification of materials and candidates. (RTOFOR 02.2) 3. The Training Manager will convene a panel and submit the materials to an audit panel consisting of content, assessment and industry experts for review using the Validation & Moderation Panel Item Record Form/s.
