Welcome to our 4 day Goondiwindi tour. After we have loaded the coach and completed our passenger pick up
we are ready to go. We head away from the coast and up into the National Parks area. Continuing west we
arrive in Glen Innes. Glen Innes was gazetted at the height of the gold rush in 1852 and settled by the Scots.
Known fondly as “the land of the Beardies”, Glen Innes regards itself as the Celtic Capital of New England. We
continue through to the Inverell RSM Club for lunch. This afternoon we travel through Warialda and North Star.
This area is known as the Golden Triangle due to the emphasis on grain growing. We later arrive in Goondiwindi
or “Gundy” as the locals call it. Apart from being right on the Macintyre River which forms the Queensland/NSW
Border it is the commercial hub of a vast agricultural area producing cotton, grain, wool and more. It’s also the
hometown to a once reasonably successful race horse – Gunsynd – the Goondiwindi Grey! There is a memorial
here to this great horse which we will see.

Day 2 — Tuesday 5 April
Goondiwindi Cotton
BLD
We have an interesting day today. A local guide will join us on the coach this morning. We will learn about one of
Australia’s booming industries, cotton. We will drive out to a cotton farm where we can see how cotton is picked
and then to a cotton gin to see it being processed. We will enjoy morning tea along the way. Our next stop is at
the Heritage Water Park – this serene 210 hectare park is a good venue for spotting the native birdlife. Back in
town we visit the Customs House Museum, a border customs point before Federation. This authentically restored
building and its magnificent cottage garden has a colourful collection of mementos of yesteryear. We farewell our
guide and head to the iconic Victoria Hotel where we enjoy our lunch. This afternoon we drive south to the small
town of Boggabilla to visit the Euraba Paper Company. This unique paper mill is an Aboriginal community paper
mill that began in 1996. It produces paper made from 100% cotton rag off-cuts, supplied by local clothing
manufacturers (waste that would otherwise contribute to landfill). The Euraba papers are extremely strong and
richly pigmented using the additives of natural grasses and local fibres. We enjoy time here before returning to our
motel with the rest of the afternoon at leisure.

Day 3 — Wednesday 6 April
Texas
BLD
This morning we are going to take a drive to the small town of Texas. Situated on the attractive Dumaresq River,
Texas offers excellent fishing, great camping spots and the serendipity of rural landscapes. The surrounding
bushland abounds with native fauna and an extensive selection of colourful wildflowers. Primarily a sheep and
cattle grazing area, Texas boasts a variety of other industries – orchards, small crop farming, feedlots and a
growing tourism industry. On arrival we will call at the Texas Heritage Centre and Tobacco Museum. Morning tea
will be provided before we take a look at the Texas Regional Art Gallery. We head to Lake Coolmunda where we
enjoy our picnic lunches. This afternoon we stop at Coolmunda Olives for a tour followed by tastings. Coolmunda
Olives takes great pride in nurturing an organic crop for the freshest, tastiest and healthiest product. Located near
Inglewood, Queensland’s olive growing capital, the climate is perfect for producing plump, juicy olives. After an
enjoyable day we return to our motel for our final night on tour.

Day 4 — Thursday 7 April
Goondiwindi to Home
BL
This morning we checkout of our hotel and farewell our hosts as today is a travel day for home. Back in New
South Wales, we follow along the south side of the border towards Tenterfield. Then we will get back onto the
New England Highway for a little while. We stop along the way for morning tea and for lunch. This afternoon we
travel home with many wonderful memories of our 4 day holiday.
