Your
pathway
to Curtin University
1
Welcome to Curtin College
On campus. On Track.
Since 2000, Curtin College has established itself as the major pathway
to Curtin University, Western Australia’s largest university. Located on
Curtin’s main campus in Bentley, Curtin College has produced around
7,000 students who have successfully progressed to the 2nd year of a
bachelor degree at the University.
CURTIN COLLEGE – YOUR INTEGRATED PATHWAY TO
CURTIN UNIVERSITY
Curtin College offers a wide range of degree pathways for students
who do not meet the minimum requirements for university entry.
Our courses provide the skills and knowledge required for university
studies and enable students to enter Curtin with advanced standing of
up to one year.
Curtin College’s flexible entry requirements meet the needs of a
diverse range of students. The teaching staff at the College are highly
qualified, friendly and committed, and provide a high level of personal
support to all students. This ensures a student’s time at the College
is not only academically successful, but an enjoyable and memorable
experience.

STUDY ON THE CURTIN CAMPUS
Studying at Curtin College allows students to take advantage of the
facilities and services provided by Curtin University. This includes the
cafés, library, bookshop and chaplaincy services. College students can
also become Associate Members of the Curtin Guild to gain on- and
off-campus discounts and access to Guild clubs, competitions, events
and sport. Access to the University environment helps students to
transition smoothly into tertiary study.
TRIMESTER SYSTEM AND FLEXIBLE STUDY OPTIONS
For Certificate IV Tertiary Preparation Program, Tertiary Access
Program and Diplomas (except Engineering, Health Sciences and
Information Technology), the academic year is divided into 13-week
trimesters. Trimester one runs from February until June, trimester
two from July until October, and trimester three from October until
February. The flexibility of the trimester system allows students to
fast-track many Curtin College programs. In most cases, this means
students are able to reach their desired degree at Curtin University in a
shorter time. Dedicated students may be able to enter university more
quickly. Students who prefer a more gradual transition into university
study may be able to extend their studies over three trimesters. With
the trimester calendar year, students can still complete the course
within a 12-month period.
For Diplomas of Engineering, Health Sciences and Information
Technology, the academic year at the College follows the Curtin
University calendar. Semester one runs from March to June and
semester two from August to November. Please refer to the course
table on pages 4–5 for the intakes available for your choice of
program.
TEACHING AT CURTIN COLLEGE
Students at the College are exposed to a variety of teaching methods
designed to promote a stimulating learning experience. Lecturers
provide students with a framework for each unit being studied, and
ensure they acquire the relevant knowledge and skills for the chosen
course. Students are expected to take notes summarising key points
and ask any questions they may have regarding complicated issues
raised during the lecture. Lecture groups average between 30 and
50 students, with some often much smaller. Students are given the
opportunity to study all units in further detail through tutorials and
seminars. Students apply their knowledge and develop practical skills
in group and individual project work as well as in laboratory sessions.
Curtin College tutors have access to the latest technology and facilities
to support their teaching and students benefit from interactive
classrooms, as well as full computing and internet facilities.
FREE SUPPORT PROGRAMS
At no extra cost, students can access a number of support classes
to enhance their study skills and performance at the College.
These support programs are designed to assist students on their
educational journey.
Programs include an Academic Master Series, Mathematics Clinic
and Academic Drop In Sessions. Individual support is available where
required to ensure all students receive the assistance they need.
CREDIT FOR RECOGNISED LEARNING
Credit for Recognised Learning (CRL) enables students to complete
specified certificate or diploma courses in a shorter time than normal.
CRL is usually based on successful completion of equivalent modules
or units of study at another institution. Applications for credits should
include unit outlines (syllabus) and certified copies of any academic
transcripts. Curtin College also recognises the skills and knowledge
students may have gained from life experiences, work experience and
any training provided through previous employment. Requests for CRL
should be made at the time of application. The granting of a Curtin
College diploma is contingent on students having studied a minimum
of 50% of the course at the College.
Where are we?
