Members and Friends,
On behalf of the board of directors of the American
Advertising Federation’s Lexington chapter, I am honored
to welcome you to the 2014 American Advertising Awards.
I’d like to extend a well-deserved congratulations to all
ADDY winners. Each year I am more impressed with the
work coming out of this community as it truly seems to
get better and better.
Once again, I am excited to announce that we have
seen substantial increases in the amount of work entered
into the competition. This year we had nearly 400 entries.
That’s almost 100 more entries than last year. Not only
that, Lexington continues to be at the top in regards to
the amount of entries in District 5; a region that includes
large markets such as Louisville, Cincinnati, Dayton,
Columbus and Cleveland. This just goes to show that
as a community we are proud our work.
Our judges this year were from Tennessee and South
Carolina. All had experience working at both large and
small agencies from around the country. As we all can
agree, in this industry the work is extremely subjective.
That being said, our judges had differing opinions, preferences and aesthetic points-of-view so please do not
be discouraged if the outcome is not as you had hoped.
Winning any ADDY is a great honor and not winning
does not accurately represent your skill and career.
Tonight, let’s celebrate what we love and are blessed
to do for a living. Let’s enjoy ourselves, be respectful
and join in congratulations of our creative peers.

The American Advertising Awards are a national award
program hosted by the American Advertising Federation.
Local gold ADDY award recipients will automatically
advance to the District 5 competition to compete against
creatives from Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia. Those
who win at the District level will advance to the National
competition to compete against America’s top advertising
agencies and creative professionals.
With close to 400 entries, this year’s judges had a lot of
incredible work to review! Give yourself a nice pat on the
back. Central Kentucky will be well represented not only
at the District competition but at the National competition,
which will be held in Boca Raton, FL on May 31.
The American Advertising Awards Program is prepared
entirely by volunteers. This is my second year chairing
this event, and it has been an honor and I am humbled
to have been trusted with such a great responsibility.
Getting to work with and along-side so many talented
people is a great privilege. I want to give a special thanks
to everyone who volunteered their time to help make this

Described as a humble Virginia gentleman, you might say advertising runs in Pat’s blood. His grandfather helped to create the Land
O’ Lakes Indian, and as a youngster Pat would visit his uncles’ ad
agency in Richmond. His first experience to advertising was witnessing an entire focus group room full with potato chips waiting to be
tested. From that moment on, Pat knew this was the business for
him. In 1990, Pat graduated from The Portfolio Center and joined
Lord Dentsu in NY, where he quickly became art director on the
agency’s more prestigious accounts such as Lea & Perrins & TDK.
Pat reunited with his uncles later to build a new agency—Hawley
Martin Partners. There he helped gain the shop international recognition with awards in The One Show, NY Art Director’s Club and
D&AD. With a taste for bigger accounts, Pat left for Dallas to help
DDB Needham to steer brands such as Mountain Dew & Budget
Rental Cars. Later, Crispin & Porter brought Pat on board to assist
such accounts as AvMed, The Miami Herald, and The Sunglass Hut.
He elevated the agency with it’s first recognition in D&AD- and top
awards in The One Show and The Clio Awards. Pat then traveled to
L.A. to help build a new shop called Ground Zero. He helped grow
the agency from only 8 people —to 88, and was voted as one of the
Top 10 Leading Art Directors by ‘Boards magazine. His work was
even featured into The Museum of Modern Art’s permanent exhibit.
At The Buntin Group in Nashville as SVP/Creative Partner, Pat was
recognized with a medal in the prestigious J. Chiat Planning
Awards. Pat next crafted his talents deep within the digital and
social arena at Engauge. Pat is has now joined the heavily talented
and integrated team at The Brandon Agency. A team he describes
as uber-powerful and poised to change the future of advertising
with unmatched capabilities. As passionate as they come, Pat
doesn’t sleep until his clients have the best ideas possible.

Matt Cheuvront is the founder and owner of Proof —a full-service
branding house based in Nashville, Tennessee. Matt embraces
that an effective brand is carefully and intentionally crafted. With
an understanding that the bet brands start with a compelling story,
Matt has helped countless companies, organizations, and individuals think creatively, act strategically, and articulate their brands in
order to compel interest, define purpose, and inspire action. As an
entrepreneur, writer, and speaker, Matt’s work has been featured in
Forbes, Inc. Magazine, Entrepreneur Magazine, Mashable, Monster.
com, Fast Company, The Young Entrepreneur Council, Copyblogger,
Fox Business, Yahoo, and blogs/publications worldwide. Matt’s
also an avid craft-beer drinker and marathon runner (the two go
hand-in-hand) and is great at writing bios in the third-person.
Account management. Media planning. Copywriting. Creative
Direction. During his 20-year advertising career, Jason Wright has
done a little bit of everything. And a lot of brand-building, awardwinning work along the way. A graduate of the University of Georgia
and the Portfolio Center, Jason has worked at some of the biggest
shops in the business like TBWA Chiat/Day and Leo Burnett, on
some of the biggest brands in the world like Levi’s, McDonald’s,
Kellogg, Nintendo and Samsung. Now a Group Creative Partner
for The Buntin Group in Nashville, Jason continues to find innovative
creative solutions for clients like Royal Bank of Canada, Helzberg
Diamonds and Kirkland’s. Throughout his career, his work has
received recognition in Communication Arts, Adweek, and the New
York Times, as well as awards from the New York and London Film
Clubs, The Hugos, The Effies and, of course, The Addys. He was
also named the 2010 Copywriter of the Year by the Nashville AAF.
