Connecticut IB Academy Testing Day SAT for Juniors CAPT SCIENCE for Sophomores Testing Day will be take place March 2, 2016. Sophomore and Juniors only will attend CIBA that day. Freshmen and Seniors are encouraged to engage in home-based activities such as study day, CAS/SA, community service, etc. The Connecticut State Department of Education requires that all juniors will take a standardized test for reading and math and all sophomores will take a standardized test for science. (East Hartford requires a minimum of a 3 (of 5) on the CAPT Science for graduation.) The past two years, we dedicated five days of testing for Smarter Balance and CAPT Science testing. As recently as three years ago, it took us five days to test our students on three different CAPT tests and then five more days for make-up tests. Due to the disruption in the schedule, between 20 to 35 hours of instructional time (depending on grade level) were lost. This year we are administering both tests on ONE DAY – Wednesday, March 2, 2016. This year, we have been able to consolidate the testing windows and schedules to one day! We are very excited to dedicated March 2nd as TESTING DAY at CIBA. Our juniors will take the CSDE required SAT test in reading and math, while all sophomores will take the CSDE required CAPT Science exam. SAT information (Juniors) The SAT will be administered during the school day to all Grade 11 students in all public schools in Connecticut. Two parts of the SAT: Reading/ Language, and Mathematics, will be tested. The test itself is organized with four answer choices and no penalty for guessing. More information on test administration, accommodations for students with special needs and English learners, data privacy, release of student results to colleges, training, district test coordinator responsibilities, etc. can be requested at the school level. The College Board offers a free practice site at www.khanacademy.org/ sat. We have created a student-centered schedule for the TESTING DAY that includes time dedicated for nutrition, exercise and breaks. We know that testing can be a stressful situation. We developed our plan to ensure students can focus on the test, SAT or CAPT, for the day and then get ready for classes the next day. Reports of individual student achievement relative to performance standards in each of these content areas are provided to school districts and parents/ guardians of each student tested. The CAPT provides information about achievement that is used for many purposes including: establishing high performance standards on a comprehensive range of important skills and knowledge; emphasizing the application and integration of skills and knowledge in realistic contexts. Seniors and freshmen will be afforded the time to take advantage of the day to engage in a variety of home -based activities: Study Day, SA/Personal Project/CAS opportunities, etc.
