TILE collection
Smink Things is the studio of designer Marianne Smink, based in East of London. It is here she creates the striking designs
featured in her collections of ceramic wall tiles, murals and printed wallpapers.
Born and raised in the Netherlands, it’s been 12 years since Marianne made London her home. Unmistakably, there is
something of her Dutch heritage in the collections. The traditional processes and finishes that she has mastered
are teamed up with the bold and simple shapes of her signature designs.
Marianne has a fascination with print and its translation into her materials, her eyes often drawn to any subtle and unique
imperfections. Each ceramic tile is hand made and crafted from scratch, no two are exactly the same. Each tile is finished
individually with its screen-printed design then fired revealing individuality in every piece.
Inspiration comes instinctively to Marianne. Every first idea is intuitively developed in print then transferred to tile with each
new iteration often a refinement of the last.
The tile collection consists of screen-printed designs and plain solid colour carriers all available in a strong, modern yet
muted palette. Patterns are all easy to use, offering endless possibilities for layouts and configurations. Coming in two
formats; tiles and mural collections, the range can work for every space and any project.
Smink Things also offers a bespoke commission and special design service. Please get in touch to talk through your

The first half of the brochure shows five murals. Tile configurations designed in a thought out lay-out and is sold
as a complete set, coming with instructions regarding the lay-out and each tile is numbered.
The second half of this brochure shows you all the individual tiles and how they can be used in a creative way and
combined together. They are sold individually starting at 1m2 per tile design
Ceramic Tile Murals
Our ceramic tile murals are tile compositions designed and sold as a complete set of tiles. Each supplied with full instructions
regarding the layout and each tile is numbered to make it easy to install.
MQ 11 - Quarter Circle
This design blends and contrasts the bold sharp circle on its loosely hand painted background. Sometimes stark and loud,
sometimes softly hidden in a background glaze. The Quarter Circle changes constantly through this family of tiles in hues
of complementary and contrasting shades.

ME 12 - Eclipse
Based on the iconic art of the USSR and inspired by the strong and striking architecture, industry and its workers
this unusual design makes a bold impression, softened with the tonal colour palette.

MR 13 - Recubed
A re-imagining of the vasarely Op Art icon, Cubes, deconstructed and allowed to live again with irregular possibility.
In a regular formation a sense of its three-dimensional inspiration is clearly evident.

MA 14 - After Lowry
One of Smink Things most popular ranges, it explores an abstract world of industrial architecture in shape and colour.
Inspired by L.S Lowry’s city vistas; Marianne’s Dutch eyes restore a feeling of his art in a contemporary palette of soft
greys, browns and creams. The hard industrial shapes are captured entirely with gentle, undulating and irregular hues
of glaze.
This mural consists of 96 tiles

MG 15 - Going Overground
Inspired by the largest tiling project ever undertaken in Britain, the London Underground. By breaking it down to just a
handful of the iconic underground tile colours and rethinking their patterns, the Going Overground design was bourne.
In its abstract formation it is possible to forget the hard urban environments we associate with the underground.
Soft and warm colour washes work perfectly with the rhythmic sway of the triangular prints.
This mural consists of 70 tiles

Terms & Conditions
PLACING ORDERS
Please order carefully.
Samples may be requested.
Check the quantities. Ordering proper quantities is essential, as we cannot guarantee an exact match between batches.
We recommend ordering 5-10% extra tiles. Check delivery requirements and delivery costs.
Once production has begun, orders cannot be cancelled.
There is a 1 sqm minimum order per tile design.
PRICES
Prices are subject to change without notice according to cost variations. All product prices quoted exclude the cost
of delivery and taxes. Vat rate is 20%.
DELIVERY
We can arrange delivery anywhere in the world. Please contact us to request a freight quote.
Tiles are packed in cardboard boxes, loaded on a protected and sealed pallet. Pallets are delivered on the pavement.
Freight quotes are passed on at cost with a 5€ pallet charge per pallet used. Delivery terms are to be considered
indicative. Eventual delivery delays do not entitle customers to claim indemnity.
PAYMENT TERMS
A 50% deposit is required to confirm your order.
The balance is due before order released. The goods will be released immediately after the payment has been
received and cleared in full.
LEAD TIMES
Our lead times are usually 4-6 weeks but vary from product to product and may also be extended at certain times
of the year.
TOLERANCE TO DIMENSIONS AND SHADES
Tiles are referred to its nominal size, not its actual size. Due to the handcrafted nature of our products, dimensions are
approximate and may be subject to a degree of inaccuracy. The number of tiles supplied per square meter is approximate
and depends upon the suggested grout joint. A possible variation in shades is considered as a particularity of such products.
Tiles may exhibit variations from samples and within a shipped lot.
CUSTOM PROJECTS
Please inquire us about custom developments. Custom projects are priced accordingly.
Custom sizes are available for an additional charge. Custom glazes are subject to Run of Kiln, which may be up to
10% over original quantity.
RETURNS
Please order carefully as we cannot accept returns. Please check your products carefully on delivery.
Any problems with quality, quantity and kind of material supplied must be reported to Smink Things within 7 working days
of receipt of the order. In case of claim the buyer should put the disputed material at Smink Things’ disposal for any
defect checking. No claim will be accepted once the material has been installed. Damage caused by inappropriate
installation, accident, misuse or improper maintenance is not covered by Smink Things products warranty.
Variations in colour, shade, tonality, texture and crazing are inherent characteristic of Smink Things tiles and are not defects.
Variations in facial dimensions and thickness will be allowed as per handcrafted products standards. Although Smink Things
provides Installation and Maintenance guidelines, its liability is strictly limited to the supply of products.
