This guide outlines the various electronic communication methods and the types of messages you can expect for each. Many of these are available through the student portal, OASIS (Online Access to Student Information Services); others are available via the web without the need to login to OASIS, while some are accessible both ways. Please note: it is a condition of enrolment that students activate their OASIS account and check regularly for important information (see OCC section below). Messages sent via OCC cannot be deleted and will remain in the University database linked to your student ID. Important University information is delivered to students via OCC and it is a condition of enrolment that all Curtin students regularly check their OCC at least weekly and preferably more often. Examples of messages sent via OCC: Examples of messages that should not be sent via OCC: Fees notification Personal or confidential information Library notices Social news/events Graduations notices Students who are unable to access OCC on a weekly basis can apply for eExemption. Contact Student Central on 9266 3399 or visit http://students.curtin.edu.au/administration/forms.html Please note: exemptions will not be given for slow Internet connections and where possible students should utilise the numerous computing facilities provided on our campuses. Student Email Every Curtin student is provided with a free email account. Depending on your course, this will appear as either <yourname>@student.curtin.edu.au or <yourname>@postgrad.curtin.edu.au. Like all email accounts, this is subject to account size limits (Undergraduates receive 10Mb and Postgraduates receive 20Mb) so you will need to ensure your account is well managed should you wish to use this. While there is no enrolment condition to use email, your lecturer/tutor/school may prefer to use this method to communicate with you during the Study Period. Many students use a separate email account to the one provided by Curtin. If you would like the University to be aware of this address, please update your email details in eStudent (within OASIS). Please note that your ‘Curtin Provided’ email address will be recorded as your preferred email address. Message Type Comments Personal messages Your email account is your private account.
