SEDlabs Green Career Showcase Assignment Directions: Your task is to choose and research a green career. Each week one student in class will showcase their findings to the class in a 10-minute powerpoint presentation. STEPS: 1. Choose a business: Choose a green career that interests you or that you know little about (see the list posted online). Remember… do not pick a career that has already been showcased. 2. Research your chosen career and interview someone in the field: Use any available resources for the research (e.g. internet, books, professional organizations, etc.). Note the following during research/interview: a. b. c. d. e. General description of the career, including basic job duties Education and/or experience necessary Approximate salary earned Potential job location(s) (i.e. hospital, research institution, fieldwork, etc.) Outlook for this job in the future (i.e. How sought after will this job be in upcoming years?) f. Reference list of websites or organizations where students can find more information if interested g. Skills or concepts learned in our class that relate to this career 3. Create a career report: On 2 pages or less, neatly organize the above information in some way. Your career report will be posted in the classroom. It is fine to submit something you found on the website, just make sure it has all the required information included. 4. Showcase your report in class: On your designated day, plan to showcase your career to the class in an informal 3-minute powerpoint presentation of your career report. Try to limit to 5 slides. Grading Information: The following rubric will be used to assess your career report. SCORE Level 4 DESCRIPTION Student completes all of the important components of the task and communicates effectively. Where appropriate, student goes beyond the minimum requirement to offer insightful interpretations or extensions (e.g. generalizations, applications). Level 3 Student completes most of the important aspects of the task and communicates successfully. Some less important details may be overlooked or misunderstood. Level 2 Student completes some of the important aspects of the task, but not others. Gaps in student’s understanding are evident. Level 1 Student completes only a small portion of the required components of the task. The report reveals only fragmented understanding of career. Level 0 Student’s response is either totally irrelevant or, if there is some understanding of the task, the response is totally wrong or provides no evidence of appropriate reasoning.
