The “Proverbs 31 Woman”
This is the story of a man named Tim who earnestly
prayed for a virtuous woman like the one described in
Proverbs 31. It’s a story about hope and faith and how
a little prayer dramatically changed the lives of two
people.
Tim met Jennifer at a conference in Toledo two years
ago. He was attracted to her instantly. He describes it
like this, “I saw her from across the room. There was this
glow about her. I was just drawn to her by some
inexplicable force. I knew God had a woman in mind
for me but I just didn’t know who she was until then.” In a flash he realized
Jennifer was the woman he’d been praying for all this time.
For years Tim kept the same appointment with God. At 5:00 am every
morning, before the sounds of the city drown everything out, he was up
praying. He looked forward to the quiet and stillness of the hour and to his
conversations with God. He prayed for strength and wisdom, for his family
and friends and peace. He asked God to bless him with a virtuous
woman. And he always said this little prayer for his wife-to-be. “Lord, I’m
excited about the one you’ve chosen for me. Watch over and protect
her. Keep her safe and free from harm. I know when you feel the time is
right you will reveal her to me. Until then, guide her steps and fill her heart
with peace and joy.”
Rare and Precious
Those who know Jennifer say she is truly a
beautiful woman, rare and precious and worth far
more than rubies. In fact, through her faith and
service and by her nurturing spirit, she embodies
all the virtues of a “Proverbs 31 Woman.” She was
and is the answer to all Tim’s prayers and it wasn’t
long before they were married. What are the
virtues of a “Proverbs 31 Woman?” There are ten:
1. Faith - A Virtuous Woman serves God with all of her heart, mind, and soul.
She seeks His will for her life and follows His ways. (Proverbs 31: 26, Proverbs
31: 29 – 31, Matthew 22: 37, John 14: 15 Psalm 119: 15).

2. Marriage – A Virtuous Woman respects her husband. She does him good all the days
of her life. She is trustworthy and a helper. (Proverbs 31: 11- 12, Proverbs 31: 23,
Proverbs 31: 28, 1 Peter 3, Ephesians 5, Genesis 2: 18).
3. Mothering - A Virtuous Woman teaches her children the ways of her Father in
heaven. She nurtures her children with the love of Christ, disciplines them with care
and wisdom, and trains them in the way they should go. (Proverbs 31: 28, Proverbs
31: 26, Proverbs 22: 6, Deuteronomy 6, Luke 18: 16).
4. Health – A Virtuous Woman cares for her body. She prepares healthy food for her
family. (Proverbs 31: 14 – 15, Proverbs 31: 17, 1 Corinthians 6: 19, Genesis 1: 29, Daniel
1, Leviticus 11).
5. Service - A Virtuous Woman serves her family, her friends, and her neighbors with a
gentle and loving spirit. She is charitable. (Proverbs 31: 12, Proverbs 31: 15, Proverbs
31: 20, 1 Corinthians 13: 13).
6. Finances - A Virtuous Woman spends wisely. She is careful to purchase quality items
which her family needs. (Proverbs 31: 14, Proverbs 31: 16, Proverbs 31: 18, 1 Timothy 6:
10, Ephesians 5: 23, Deuteronomy 14: 22, Numbers 18: 26).
7. Industry – A Virtuous Woman works willingly with her hands. She sings praises to God
while completing her tasks. (Proverbs 31: 13, Proverbs 31: 16, Proverbs 31: 24,
Proverbs 31: 31, Philippians 2: 14).
8. Homemaking – A Virtuous Woman is a homemaker. She creates an inviting
atmosphere of warmth and love for her family and guests. She uses hospitality to
minister to those around her. (Proverbs 31: 15, Proverbs 31: 20 – 22, Proverbs 31: 27,
Titus 2: 5, 1 Peter 4: 9, Hebrews 13: 2).
9. Time - A Virtuous Woman uses her time wisely. She works diligently to complete her
daily tasks. She does not spend time dwelling on those things that do not please the
Lord. (Proverbs 31: 13, Proverbs 31: 19, Proverbs 31: 27, Ecclesiastes 3, Proverbs 16: 9,
Philippians 4:8 ).
10. Beauty – A Virtuous Woman is a woman of worth and beauty. She has the inner
beauty that only comes from Christ. She uses her creativity and sense of style to
create beauty in her life and the lives of her loved ones. (Proverbs 31: 10, Proverbs
31: 21 – 22, Proverbs 31: 24 -25, Isaiah 61: 10, 1 Timothy 2: 9, 1 Peter 3: 1 – 6).
Some might say when Tim and Jennifer met and married it was the end of their
story. God rewarded Tim’s prayers, patience and faithfulness. He brought them
together changing the course of both their lives. There’s no denying that. But as
it turns out, Tim’s prayers had an even more profound affect on their lives than
either of them could ever have imagined.
Not long before they met, Jennifer was involved in a terrible accident. She was
travelling alone on a rural road early one morning when a deer jumped out in
front of her. Swerving to miss it, she lost control of the car and slammed into a
tree. It knocked her unconscious momentarily. Regaining her senses, she realized
she was trapped in the car. She could see smoke and flames.

In telling Tim the story later, she said she figured it was all over. She was trapped
in the car on an isolated road in the middle of no where. “Who was going to
show up out here and save me at 5 am in the morning?” That’s when,
miraculously, a man appeared and pulled Jennifer from the wreckage to safety.
The tears well up in her eyes when she reflects back on that moment. Jacob, the
man that rescued her, was on his way to work. Normally he would have taken
another route but for a reason he can’t explain, he went a different way that
day. Jennifer calls him an angel sent by God. But Tim knows Jennifer was saved
through prayer.
A truly virtuous woman is rare indeed and I’ve been blessed by so many in my
life – my mother, mother-in-law, sisters, aunts and my beautiful bride. I ask God in
my prayers everyday to keep them safe and free from harm. I ask Him to watch
over and protect them. And I thank Him for bestowing me with so many
wonderful “Proverbs 31 Women” in my life.
God Bless,
