Algonquin College has embarked on an initiative to ensure that 100% of our students have access to 100% of their essential resources 100% of the time.
Through institutional level partnerships with major HE publishers, Algonquin has lowered the overall cost of making essential courses resources available to all our students by incorporating the cost of the resources within the tuition. This presentation will demonstrate the end to end processes involved in moving from a traditional student pay model for the acquisition of print based textbooks towards an institutional model of deploying eTexts and digital resources across all courses within a program. DAVID LOMBARDI, VP - Account Services, Ace Learning Company
GREG JACOBSEN, Learning Engineer, Pearson
CONTRIBUTOR: REBECCA JONES, Senior Director, Argosy University
CONTRIBUTOR: STEVEN KLINGER, Vice Chancellor, Argosy University
By enabling students to master skills at their own pace, competency-based learning programs help to save students both time and money while powering Institutions with flexibility and student-level insights to improve courses continuously.
Depending on the strategy pursued, competency-based programs create multiple pathways to graduation, make better use of technology, support new staffing patterns that utilize teacher skills and interests differently, take advantage of learning opportunities outside of school hours and walls, and help identify opportunities to target interventions to meet the specific learning needs of students. Each of these presents an opportunity to achieve greater efficiency and increased productivity.

Understanding and selecting degree programs to take online is only the first step in the process of delivering successful online programs. The change management that’s necessary to deliver and sustain online programs successfully affects the entire institution from faculty, admissions, financial aid, registrar and other departments. Institutions that have traditionally resisted change are being asked to transform themselves in unprecedented ways. Many college and university leaders are beginning to take bold steps to meet the new reality. In this panel, you will hear from institutional leaders who will provide practical insights and recommendations on how to handle the change management required for an institution to offer competitive online offerings.

App-tivities: Mobile Learning in the 21st Century
CARI JIMENEZ, Online Lecturer, University of Florida
As educators, research show us the importance of “Exposure, Repetition and
Practice” for the learning process. We strive to create learning ecosystems where the student can interact in a meaningful way with the course content. However, often we are faced with the spatial and time constraints of our postindustrial globalized world that prevents our students to access, connect and engage with it. The challenge then is to create new possibilities and opportunities that enable students to participate in a new learning environment where learning is not compartmentalized to rigid time, and space boundaries but rather is open-ended, active, ‘just in time’, flexible, autonomous and ubiquitous at the same time that it maintains a high level of academic quality (rigor, integrity and scholarship).

Virtual Teamwork: Using Teams in Online Courses
VIRGINIA HARDING, Adjunct Professor,
John Marshall Law School - Chicago
Having students work in teams is not the usual model found in legal education but it is one that helps students develop the critical skill of collaboration and the ability to complete transactions involving a number of parties who are often located elsewhere. Both presenters started to use teams when teaching courses in a classroom setting.
