Perhaps never before in the Poland China breed has the opportunity been this great to secure powerful genetics from a family of strong
Poland China heritage and from a genetic population that has been as popular and had show ring success as any in the breed the past 20-plus
years. It started with Wanda, the 2012 Indiana State Fair $7,500 private treaty purchase by Lairds when she was selected champion Poland
and fourth overall at the always competitive Indiana State Fair Junior Show. The Lairds are rebuilding their strong sow herd around Wanda,
a daughter of Nom Nom Nom. In fact, this is only the second Wanda daughter offered for sale. The first one was the $3,700 weanling
that Lairds sold in 2013 who went on to stand fifth overall at the 2013 World Pork Expo Junior National as a January gilt and who had
a littermate barrow win reserve champion at the same show. Ironically, Wanda’s littermate sister is Polly, the Caldwell gilt that J.R. Reid
purchased after her championship run at Des Moines and Springfield and who is the dam of Like No Other, the current breed leader in sire
points for 2014.
The sire of the Winter 2014 Foundation Female is Titleist 5-3, the sire of the popular L&C Polands Indiana State Fair boar and Tucker’s
NBS® champion. Titleist was also named premier sire in Austin this fall. Notice that Titleist is sired by Dang Good Hog, the 2013 National
Sire of The Year and that Wanda is sired by Nom Nom Nom, the 2012 National Sire of The Year. See a trend?
The service sire of this foundation female is Storm Chaser, the $30,500 private auction purchase in June by Premium Blend Genetics and
Reid & Collins from Brattains. Storm Chaser is sired by Perfect Storm which only gives this one more banner possibilities for the new owner.
Obvioulsy Perfect Storm has had a summer to remember in show rings across America. The top five gilts of the 2014 World Pork Expo
Junior National were sired by Perfect Storm, bred by five different breeders from five different states. Two of those included the Team
Purebred Supreme Champion Gilt (record-selling Poland open gilt of all time) and fourth overall Team Purebred gilt. Additionally, the
champion and reserve champion Poland and reserve overall gilts at the 2014 National Junior Show were Perfect Storm daughters. Storm
Chaser’s dam, sired by Old School, was champion Poland and third overall at the 2012 World Pork Expo Junior National. Storm Chaser’s
littermate sisters had a great summer at the 2014 National Junior Show. Wow—this genetic mating should be equally as successful.
