“SCAM ALERT: Fraudulent Caller Claims to be the "National Credit Union Administration" Please be advised that local Credit Unions, credit union members, including local banks and bank customers have reported that they are currently receiving an influx of fraudulent phishing activity on their cell phones. The incoming number has shown up as all zeroes or 1-786-441-4432. The caller claims to be the 'National Credit Union Association' calling to inform the recipient that their debit card has been suspended and directs the recipient to press '1' to verify. More than likely, this will take the call recipient to a fraudulent customer service representative who will ask for more information from the recipient. Phishing is the act of attempting to acquire information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details (and sometimes, indirectly, money) by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication. Communications purporting to be from popular credit/debit card service providers, social web sites, auction sites, online payment processors or IT administrators are commonly used to lure the unsuspecting public. Phishers want you to react immediately and therefore include upsetting or exciting statements which trigger fear or happiness. They may falsely claim suspicious withdrawals from your banking account, present you as the winner of a lottery or play on your passion for example politics/religion. Never give any account information on the web, or in an unsolicited phone call such as the one described above. Be sure not to call any number or use any link in the suspected email as this may put you in the hands of those responsible for the phishing attack. Please rest assured that Mid Missouri Credit Union will never call you, via an automated system or our phone center associates and ask you for your financial information. Please do not ever enter or give your financial information to anyone over the phone. If you receive a phone call from someone stating that they are from Mid Missouri Credit Union requesting that you allow them to re-activate your debit card by entering your debit card number, this is a SCAM. Please be assured that we will never contact our members to re-activate their debit card or to request that they enter their debit card number. If you have any questions, please call a branch near you” We have had a VERY high volume of calls from worried people about this scam going around and we are trying to push this info out to every available channel. Please respond back whether or not you will be able to post for us.
