B.A. in FILM AND TELEVISION
The two-year, upper division program in Film and Television
provides an education in the history and theory of these art
forms and basic learning experiences in production within the
context of a liberal arts education. In the first year, students are
introduced to all major aspects of film, television, and digital
media study. In the second year, each student completes a
senior concentration chosen from film production, television
production [narrative or documentary], screenwriting,
animation, critical studies or digital media. Students must also
complete at least one professional internship.
Admission Requirements:
Students must have the following:
1. A minimum 3.0 GPA at the time of application.
2. A minimum of 60 UC transferable units prior to entrance.
3) Completion of the Interseqmental General Education
Transfer Curriculum (IGETC).
Applicants should also attempt to complete major prep
courses in American film history, European film history,
American television history, and one theatre course.
GWC courses: HUM G132 or THEA G100, HUM G130 or
THEA G101, HUM G135 or THEA G102 are recommended.

Additional admission requirements include a personal essay, a
critical essay, a creative writing sample, and two letters of

CHAPMAN UNIVERSITY
B. A. in CINEMA/TELEVISION
Option in Critical Studies
The following degrees are offered at Chapman.
Transfer students should complete the USC general education
requirements plus three semesters of one foreign language.
The School of Cinematic Arts does not usually accept courses
taken in film and/or video production at other institutions.
Basic film or television history courses can sometimes be
accepted for transfer credit. The program requires submission
of the following materials in addition to the Cinematic Arts
supplemental application: (1) a photocopy of USC application
for admission, (2) a personal statement in addition to the one
provided with the USC application, (3) a writing sample, (4) a
minimum of three letters of recommendation. The admission
committee favors applicants with academic records and
personal statements that indicate a diversified liberal arts and
humanities background. The committee is also interested in
experiences/activities that show a continuing or recent
involvement in film and television studies, the arts, criticism
and/or aesthetics. This program is very competitive. Strong
writing skills with an overall GPA of 3.6 is highly

units in progress) are required for consideration. The School of
Cinematic Arts does not usually accept courses taken in film
and/or video production at other institutions. Basic film or
television history courses can sometimes be accepted for
transfer credit. The program requires submission of the
following materials in addition to the Cinematic Arts
supplemental application: (1) a photocopy of USC application
for admission, (2) a personal statement in addition to the one
provided with the USC application, as well as a statement of
which aspect of filmmaking seems of particular interest to you
and why, (3) a portfolio list, (4) a writing sample, (5) a
minimum of three letters of recommendation, (6) Visual
samples chosen from video (brief narrative video), or photo
(series of six photos). This program is very competitive.
