The business major offers a management and industrial relations track that will give
students a foundation to pursue careers in plant and human resource management
and labor-management negotiations. Students also have the option to combine
management and industrial relations with related majors or minors such as computing,
economics or quantitative analysis.
The management and industrial relations track provides students with an in-demand,
workforce-ready skill set. That, in combination with a solid liberal arts education,
further prepares students to become whatever the changing world and workforce will
expect and demand of them.

Management and Industrial Relations Track Highlights
Franklin’s management and industrial relations track is built upon a strong liberal arts foundation. This enables graduates to
adjust professionally to changes in business and society in ways that narrowly-trained technicians cannot. Courses emphasize:
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
Problem-solving skills
Data-analysis skills
Communication skills: Written and oral
Teamwork skills
Confronting current and future ethical issues
Case studies: Allowing students to practice making the same decisions they will be making throughout their careers
Fundamentals of each discipline as the foundation upon which to build a career
Pursuit of lifelong learning
As business changes and becomes more complex, a Franklin College education will enable graduates to fit perfectly into the
variety of new roles. While all business-management and industrial relations majors must take some courses in accounting
and the functional areas of business, we actively encourage students to consider a second major or minor in those areas, or
in other areas of interest.
Demonstrated Success
Each year since 1994, Franklin College seniors have taken the Major Field Achievement Test, covering all their knowledge in
economics, business and accounting. In almost all of those years, the students have scored at or above the top 10 percent
nationwide, including several years in the top 1percent nationwide of all colleges taking the exam.
Internships
Professional experience is a key factor in the development of successful executives; therefore, we require one internship
of all EBA majors and recommend the completion of two. Internships usually take place during Winter Term, but summer
internships are often available to students who desire a longer work experience. Past examples include Deloitte Touche
Tohmatsu, Cummins Inc., Simon & Associates and ESPN Radio 1000, Chicago.
Student Experiences
“Throughout my internships at Franklin College, I was able to clearly see the
benefits of my education as I applied my skills in the real world. I was more flexible,
knowledgeable, professional and successful than the other interns I worked alongside.
I credit this to the FC Business Department that gave me consistent one-on-one
attention all four years of college. I am thankful I chose to attend Franklin College for
its business program.”
–Avery Brown | Class of 2013
“Celadon is a fast paced, growth-oriented company that relies heavily on its employees
to get engaged in all aspects of the business, from serving its customers to coming up
with creative ways to solve problems and improve efficiencies. I think it takes a special
type of person to thrive in that type of environment, and I think Franklin College does
a great job preparing students for it.
“Students get a well-rounded liberal arts education; the small-school feel provides
plenty of exposure to the faculty and staff and involvement in campus activities, Greek
life and athletic teams fosters a great sense of teamwork. Those experiences set up FC
graduates well to be successful at Celadon. It also doesn’t hurt that every day seems
like an FC Homecoming now with all the graduates that work here!”
–Derek Doddridge | Class of 2005
Director of Human Resources Celadon Trucking Services
