New Degree Program Scope Note: Please keep the completed document to two pages or less. NEW DEGREE NAME: NEW DEGREE PROGRAM BACKGROUND & PURPOSE: Describe the purpose and relationship of the new degree program to EOU’s mission and strategic plan. What evidence of need does the University have for the program? What feasibility studies, needs assessment surveys, market analyses, employment data have been utilized in arriving at the conclusion that this new program should be part of EOU’s program mix? Are there similar programs in the state? If so, how does the proposed program supplement, complement, or collaborate with those programs? NEW DEGREE PROGRAM OBJECTIVES AND LEARNING OUTCOMES: Briefly explain the objectives of the new degree program as it would appear in the academic catalog. Go on to delineate learning outcomes emphasized by the program. If you were asked what three or four things a student would take away from the University after having graduated in the major, what key things would these be? Outcomes are traits that the student carries with them as a result of their education—knowledge, skills, attitudes, proclivities, abilities, conceptual understandings, etc. Degree program learning outcomes should align with university learning outcomes, but with greater specificity. Anything that is listed as an outcome should be able to be assessed in some way, so limit learning outcomes that will need to be tracked to 4 or 5. Example of objectives and learning outcomes below. 1. Briefly explain Program Objectives as they would appear in the catalog 2.
