Do you want to make a difference, and engage in a dialogue with youth from across Canada ?
Your role as a Parks Canada Youth Ambassador?
- Bring Parks Canada experiences to young Canadians where they live, study, work and play;
- Bring experiences that appeal to young Canadians to Parks Canada places to draw these audiences to their
natural and historic places; and
- Document your interactions and visits to Canada’s national parks, national historic sites and national marine
conservation areas, share your experiences and ideas through social media, network and other media
outlets.
What do we expect from a Youth Ambassador?
Ambassador will:
- Travel during summer to different national parks, national historic sites and national marine conservation
areas
- Prepare and make presentations at events, conferences, meetings and Global Vision seminars
- Arouse the interest of Canadian youth in Parks Canada during the school year
Interested in this position?
Requirements are:
 Attend an a upcoming Global Leaders Centre session offered by Global Vision or have attended one in 2012


Be between 18 and 25 years of age as of May 1st 2013

What does the Parks Canada Youth Ambassador program entail?
The youth ambassadors will connect with Canadian youth in their schools, communities and at Parks Canada places.
Their personal contacts with youth will be designed to inspire them to be active, get outdoors and experience the best
Canada has to offer. They will document their interactions with youth and their visits to Parks Canada places and share
their experiences and ideas through social media. The ambassadors will also encourage young Canadians to connect
with them and share their own outdoor Parks Canada experiences online.
How will this program benefit young Canadians?
This program will contribute towards a more engaged generation of young Canadians who are more active and better
appreciate all their country has to offer.
When was this program announced?
Program was announced by Prime Minister Harper on July 2011 to commemorate the first visit to Canada by the Duke
and Duchess of Cambridge and to make the 100th anniversary of Parks Canada (click the link to see the press release).
Who can apply to the program?
Interested young Canadians between the ages of 18 to 25.
How interested individuals apply?
Parks Canada is partnering with Global Vision to recruit the two youth Ambassadors. Interested individuals should visit

Why is Parks Canada partnering with Global Vision?
Global Vision is an organization with over 20 years of experience in championing the enterprising spirit of young
Canadians in the promotion of Canadian industry and culture. Global Vision, a non-profit organization with an
established record for engaging Canadian youth and supporting the development of these youth
How many “Youth Ambassadors” will there be?
There will be two youth ambassadors chosen per year starting in 2012 and continuing until 2021.
What are the selection criteria?
Candidates will be selected based on their social responsibility, community involvement, creativity and ability to engage
their peers and get them active, outdoors and experiencing Canada.
 Experience volunteering and participating in community activities.
 Experience using social media.
 Experience preparing and delivering presentations
 Experience planning/organizing activities and special events for the public.
 Experience speaking in public At Parks Canada we believe that the Youth Ambassadors Program is an investment
in students from across Canada who are the most passionate and best exemplify the attributes of leadership. It
is an opportunity to connect with students so that they can discover the professional world and develop skills
and competencies (aptitudes) that they will have for the rest of their lives.

- Be able to travel during summer in different national historic sites and national parks
- Be prepared to make presentation at events in different area (meetings, Global Vision seminars through the
school year...)

Demonstrate a commitment to generating the interest of Canadian youth in Parks Canada during the school
year
Must be bilingual to apply for the job?
Candidates must speak one of Canada’s two official languages to apply for the position. Bilingualism is considered to be
an asset but not selection criteria.
How long will the two individuals be youth ambassador?
Each year two people will be selected to serve a one year term as Parks Canada Youth Ambassador:

Requirement to live in the National Capital Region from May 2013 until August 2013).
Be available for work full time from May-August 2013, then part-time from September 2013-April 2014.
