The Process & Systems upgrade program is designed to help you find, achieve and sustain major energy savings. It provides access to the major financial incentives and technical expertise to upgrade your systems and make improved energy management a part of your day to day business. It’s not just about saving on energy costs. It’s about improving productivity, product quality and optimizing your operations. And it’s about taking control of your energy, so you can create a long-term competitive advantage that reaches across your entire organization. What can this program do for my business? This program is designed to provide you with major funding and technical expertise to: • F ind and study your best opportunities to save on energy costs through available funding for Preliminary and Detailed engineering studies • T ake charge of your energy with an on-site Funded Energy Manager, so that your savings will continue to grow annually • E quip your team with accurate, up-to-the-minute data about your energy use, through the program Funding for Monitoring and Targeting • C reate a real, sustainable and competitive advantage through energy management best practices Of course, we’ll be able to provide you with advice and assistance at every step along the way, from your application to implementation. Studying and Upgrading Your process & systems is Simpler than Ever STEP Goal Incentive 1. Preliminary engineering study Review the available upgrade options for a single system. 100 percent funding up to $10,000. 2. Detailed engineering study Assess your best options in further detail to build a solid business case. 100 percent funding up to $50,000. 3. Capital incentives Upgrade your PROCESS & SYSTEMS for major long-term savings. As much as 70 percent of your project costs. Other limitations apply. Energy-efficiency upgrades Funding for engineering studies Which projects are eligible? When do I receive payments? Applications for project incentives must be supported by a study providing a project description, potential for savings and capital cost. Where applicable, Preliminary or Detailed Engineering studies can be used to help meet this requirement. To qualify for any of the study and upgrade incentives, you should be considering an upgrade that will save at least 100 MWh annually. Capital projects greater than 350 MWh of savings per year require that a detailed engineering study be completed. 1. Preliminary Engineering Study For projects with savings less than 100 MWh, talk to us about available incentives through the saveONenergy RETROFIT PROGRAM. It’s your choice. We offer two different payment schedules. The advanced option provides part of your incentive while you plan and implement, but it must be supported by a letter of credit. The deferred option is for incentives paid after project completion, once the savings have been verified. • Identify and investigate project opportunities •E stimate energy savings and project costs •F unded up to $10,000 Do I need to take part in the engineering study initiatives? •S ufficient to support capital decisions Not necessarily. All applications for project incentives must be supported by a relevant engineering study. But if your organization has an equivalent study already on hand, you may be able to move directly to applying. •F ully funded for 1st year of program, up to $50,000 Can I bundle projects into a portfolio? Capital incentives Absolutely. You are welcome to bundle multiple projects together into a portfolio. Portfolios must deliver at least 3,500 MWh in savings annually for at least 10 years. 2. Detailed Engineering Study •C omprehensive investigation of energy savings and project costs The capital incentive is based on your forecasted energy savings as well as your project costs, using the lowest of three calculations: •$ 200 per MWh of projected annual average electricity savings •7 0 percent of your eligible project costs •T he amount needed to reduce your simple payback to one year Did You Know? A more efficient system is a more productive system. Efficiency won’t just save you money on energy. You’ll enjoy improved up-time, less maintenance and enhanced control over product quality and consistency. What more does the process & systems program offer? STEP Goal Incentive 1. Funding for Embedded Energy Managers Get an expert to sustain and grow your savings. Funding up to 80 percent of the Embedded Energy Manager’s actual salary and their reasonable expenses to a maximum amount per year. 2. Funding for a monitoring and targeting system Stay responsive and informed with a real-time monitoring system. 80 percent funding to commission a custom system, up to $75,000. 3. Short-term loans of metering equipment Use advanced metering equipment to fully understand your energy use. Free short-term lending. Energy management and monitoring With a long-term approach to energy management, you can watch your savings grow with each passing year. These initiatives will help you get there. Upgrade projects are vital to any effort to save on energy costs at large facilities. But to hold on to your savings for years to come, you’ll need the power of comprehensive energy management. A full-time or short-term on-site Energy Manager will create an ongoing competitive advantage by working every day to find, investigate and take advantage of opportunities. At the same time, critical metering equipment and a custom monitoring and targeting system will put minute-to-minute data about how you are using energy right into the hands of the people who can use it to save you money. 1. F unding for Embedded Energy Managers Investing in energy efficiency can be a big boost to your facility, but identifying ways to save isn’t always simple. An on-site, full-time Energy Manager can be the critical resource to keep your facility moving forward. Your Embedded Energy Manager’s role is to help you take complete control of your energy—by monitoring your performance, by leading awareness programs, by finding small-but-powerful ways to save,or by spearheading large upgrade projects. Alternatively, if a full-time Embedded Energy Manager is not called for at your facility, you may also be able to access the services of a short-term Energy Manager through us. Energy Managers are expected to generate annual minimum targets of peak demand saving and energy savings of 300 kW and (300 kW x Load Factor x 8,760 hours on energy savings) respectively. 2. Funding for a custom monitoring and targeting (M&T) system This initiative is designed to help you outfit your facility with a custom M&T system so you can monitor your consumption and set targets for improving efficiency. Your M&T system will provide you with the minute-by-minute data your team needs to make informed energy decisions, revealing where electricity is being wasted and where your efforts are making the biggest difference. We contribute up to 80 percent of the costs associated with creating and installing your system, up to a maximum of $75,000. Eligible costs include commissioning, installation, software, metering components and employee training. M&T systems are expected to generate and sustain a minimum savings target of peak demand savings and energy savings of 200 kW and (200 kW x Load Factor x 8,760 hours on energy savings) respectively. 3. Short-term loans of metering equipment The right metering equipment can reveal opportunities to save energy that would otherwise stay hidden. With the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) central metering and instrumentation library, you can borrow – for short periods of time – metering equipment that will provide you with crucial information about the systems your organization relies on every day.
