1) UMBC Meyerhoff Scholars Program
School Specific & Nomination
Deadline: October 12, 2015
Award: Ranges from $5,000 up tp $22,000 per year.
Eligibility: Graduating senior who will attend UMBC and must have a least a “B” average in college-prepatory
math and science courses, and outstanding SAT scores. Student must plan to pursue undergraduate studies in
Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics (STEM) AND plan to pursue doctoral studies (Ph.D. or
MD/Ph.D.) in a STEM field and have an interest in the advancement of underrepresented students in the
sciences and related fields.

program.
2) UMBC – Center for Women in Technology (CWIT) Scholars Program
School Specific
Deadline: Recommend students to apply to UMBC by November 1, 2015. Students applying to the CWIT
Scholars Program must submit the CWIT application and supporting documents to the Office of Financial Aid
and Scholarships by January 15, 2016.
Award: Four-year program offering scholarships ranging from $5,000 - $15,000 per academic year for in-state
students.
Eligibility: Students who will attend UMBC as a freshman and major in computer science, information systems,
business technology administration (with a technical focus), computer engineering, mechanical engineering,
chemical/biochemical/environmental engineering, or a related program.

3) UMBC – Cyber Scholars Program
School Specific
Deadline: Recommend students to apply to UMBC by November 1, 2015. Students applying to the Cyber
Scholars Program must submit the application and supporting documents to the Office of Financial Aid and
Scholarships by January 15, 2016.
Award: Varies from $5,000 - $15,000 per year for the 4-year program. Cyber Scholars are supported financially
and incorporated into a scholarship community, the CWIT Living-Learning Community, unique courses,
mentoring, and the chance to take part in cybersecurity research and internships early in their academic careers.
Eligibility: Students who will attend UMBC as a freshman, have a 3.25 GPA, and will major in computer
science, information systems, business technology administration (with a technical focus), computer
engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical/biochemical/environmental engineering, or a related program..

4) VFW Voice of Democracy Competition
National – 3 to 5 minute Audio Essay Competition. Theme: “My Vision For America”

5) DAR Good Citizens Program & Scholarship Contest Program

Deadline: November 6, 2015
Award: A good citizen pin and certificate. If the selected student chooses, he/she may elect to enter at the State
level for a $250 award. Eight of the National Division winners will receive a $500 award and may compete at
the National level for a $5,000 award.
Eligibility: Student who exhibits the qualities of dependability; service; leadership; and patriotism.

6) 2016 Young Entrepreneur Awards
National
Deadline: December 18, 2015
Award: Varies between $2,000 and $15,000
Eligibility: Open to any graduating senior who owns and operates his/her own small business. Must enter
freshman year in Fall 2016 at an accredited 2- or 4-year university, college or vocational/technical institute.

7) Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association (AFCEA) Central Maryland Scholarship
a) 2016 Merit Scholarship Awards

Award: $10,000, awarded in equal increments of $2,500 in each year of a four-year college education.
Eligibility: Local graduating senior that is academically-competitive and well rounded. Must have a cumulative
GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, and a combined math and verbal SAT score of 1200. Plan to enter a science
or engineering field of study supportive of national defense (i.e., engineering, telecommunications, computer
science, mathematics, or other related technical electives – STEM).

personal or family life. Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, and a combined math and
verbal SAT score of 800. Plan to enter a science or engineering field of study supportive of national defense
(i.e., engineering, telecommunications, computer science, mathematics, or other related technical electives –
STEM). Must be nominated by your school counselor.

8) Carroll County NAACP Branch 7014 Continuing Education Award
