As the much-anticipated cold front finally begins to hit us for the long term, the Guppies take immediate action by wrapping up and getting cozy in their linens. Perhaps the best example of this practice is demonstrated by our resident Coastie, who has taken permanent refuge in his well-lit Coastie Cave , dawning his t-shirt scarf and snugly tucked into his blanket! While we’re sort of on the topic of football, let’s not forget to mention the outstanding and undefeated Sprint Football season that our very own CPL McGivney contributed to! Undefeated, of course, also means that they BEAT NAVY! Here’s to hoping it’s a good omen for our Army Football team at the end of their season! The Coastie Cave, courtesy of Guppy Paparazzi (09 OCT) This month, the Guppy finally received the chance to participate in the routinely held Mascot Race at the recent Army Football game against Easten Michigan! Although she didn’t win, at least the Guppy was able to stay out of the wrestling match between the other mascots, and at least the most important rival was left in the dust: the FROG! (ewww frogs… ) The G4 newsletter’s very first edition of Where’s That Gup? (and pretty much everything else) is brought to you this month by USAA and BARRIER ONE SYSTEMS Our Guppies on the Army Crew team recently had their first & only home regatta! Props to those who came out to support them! Determined to raise morale across the Corps and convince everyone to cross-branch into the Coast Guard, Chief Kloo has agreed to share with us some words he routinely recites in order to stay motivated: Belay – to cancel an order; to stop; to secure a line Scuttlebutt – nautical term for a water fountain From left to right: CDT SGTs Kutz, Jankovich, Kutsch(Army Crew), Warren The Newsletter’s editor-in-chief and his partner in crime took a weekend out of their time to go check out the annual Fells Point Festival in Baltimore, MD! This month the Newsletter’s opening photo was one of Chief Kloo in his natural habitat at the beginning of the month. In the spirit of Halloween, he decided to do some redecorating for a new horror movie trailer to be released this winter! Now introducing Coastie Cave 2.0! CPL Gorak & co. worked together on developing a new Apple App usable with iPad and iPhone series products, Securis! This FREE app uses 256-bit encryption to securely store multiple accounts and passwords. This makes for a great alternative to writing down all your account passwords, or trying to memorize them. Additionally, it has a password generator feature. In case you’re not an Apple user, there is an Android-compatible version in the works. As a side note, however, Securis was temporarily removed from the App Store, as the recently released iOS7 caused compatibility issues, but stay tuned for its return! Community Service Company Education Once again, the Guppies became actively involved in community service; this time through the Habitat for Humanity organization. This month, members of 1st Platoon with assorted attachments, lead by LT Tennis and SGT Ramirez, traveled to Newburgh, NY to help restore and repair a women’s shelter for victims of abuse. The main repairs done consisted of the removal of old worn windows, and the replacement of the windows with bricks. This month, the Guppies had a series of informative training and classes! CDT SGT Hansen – Georgian Mountain School CDT CPL Quinn – French Commando School CDT SGT Warren - Sandhurst CDT SGT Warren giving it everything he has for the Sandhurst MIAD tryouts. This month, the G4 Newsletter board of advisors scheduled a press conference with the CEO, founding member, and only remaining member of Chaikin Enterprises©, as all other members either deserted, or died of excessive exposure to greetings from CDT PVT Chaikin. In this press conference, we asked PVT Chaikin how he manages to keep high morale within his units. In response, PVT Chaikin told us about his “Word of the Day” routine, where the word of the day would start with the first letter of the current day of the week. This month, PVT Chaikin’s overall favorite word of the day was: MOTIVATION In celebration of Halloween, PVT Chaikin informed us that the word of the day was Hooah! PVT Chaikin also agreed to submit some Star Wars trivia for the Guppies! What is the model of the Millennium Falcon? CDT PVT Chaikin suited up for Halloween. The last week of October was very busy for many of us, however, several Guppies were still took advantage of the opportunity to travel to USAFA to support Army Football! Although Army didn’t come out on top, the experience, to include the Halloween festivities were enough to make it worthwhile. CDT PVT Diulus won the Most Original Costume award from her host squadron (company) at USAFA!.... for wearing ACUs. This month’s sleeping beauty should look very familiar, from last month’s Tunnel to Towers photos. Can anyone name that Guppy? Without further ado, enjoy the first edition in what could potentially become a series, by Tree Frog Jim. TREE FROG JIM, Volume 1 Alright, listen up everyone, I have something to say. I have been noticing something that a lot of cadets do that grinds my gears, and they probably do not even know they are doing it. Let’s start by answering some simple questions. What side of the road do we drive on? THE RIGHT! What side does a ranking officer walk on? THE RIGHT! So then can anyone tell me what door you are supposed to walk out of when entering or exiting a building? Cause it seems like everyone likes to just ignore the rules and walk through the left door. Don’t do that!!! Just the other day Cadet John Malcolm almost lost his hand when entering Thayer from the Right door while someone tried to leave through the door he was entering (i.e. the left (wrong) door). Fortunately, the door barely missed him and he is still with us today. But going through the Right door is the Right thing to do. You avoid awkward near misses with other people and it’s the Right thing to do. Going through the Right door is a Constitutional Right! So the next time you are about to enter or leave a building, think about which door you’re exiting from. Otherwise…Good people get hurt. Don’t forget to hit up Los Café Hermanos. Now go forth and live a righteous life going through the Right door. ROMANTIC GUPPY OF THE MONTH Guppy cadets are not only scholars and athletes but also romantics. CDT LT Choi surprised his girlfriend with a romantic night out at a wine tasting. The two enjoyed sampling a variety of wines as they snacked on cheese and crackers! HALLOWEEN! The final weekend of October was dedicated to Halloween festivities! Guppies wasted no time in suiting up and participating in trick-ortreating, and costume contests. Some were kind enough to celebrate by sharing their candy! This article is dedicated to LT. Bush -Tree Frog Jim From left to right, CDT PVT Savage & CDT CPL Zhao.
