Terrapin Express account holders have the
option to use coins or their ID cards in
laundry machines following these instructions:
1. Select an unused washer or dryer and note the machine’s number.
2. When the laundry reader displays USE CASH OR CARD, swipe your UM ID card.
3. When the display changes to MACHINE # ?, enter the machine number and press Enter.
To correct an error in entering a machine number, press Clear and re-enter a number.
4. For Washers: The reader shows the washer number you selected and charge for its use.
It displays a message for 3 seconds such as #16 = $1.50, then changes to an alternating
display of ENTER TO START or CLEAR TO CANCEL.
5. For Dryers: The reader briefly displays the dryer number you selected (such as #8
SELECTED) and then displays 1 DRY CYCLE.
 After several seconds, the display then changes to EXTRA CYCLES? = ____,
where 0 is the default (indicating only 1 standard cycle selected).
 If no additional dry time is needed, press Enter. For additional drying time, enter
the number of cycles desired.
 The cost for the dryer cycle(s) you’ve selected displays briefly followed by the
message ENTER TO START. This message alternates with CLEAR TO CANCEL
for about 60 seconds.
6. To change or cancel your washer or dryer selection, press Clear. The program returns to
Step 2.
7. The message SENDING . . . appears.
8. A moment later, the reader shows your Terrapin Express account balance with the
charge for the machine use deducted. It displays a message such as BALANCE $325.75
briefly and then changes to STARTING: #8. The washer or dryer is now active.
To Add Dryer Cycles to a Dryer that is Already Running:
1. When the laundry reader displays the message USE CASH OR CARD, swipe your card.
2. When the display changes to MACHINE # ?, enter your dryer number and press Enter.
To correct an error in entering a dryer number, press Clear and re-enter the dryer
number.
3. The reader displays the machine number and status of the machine. It displays a message
such as #8 RUNNING briefly, followed by the message ADD EXTRA CYCLES.
4. Next, the display will change to EXTRA CYCLES ? = ___. For additional drying time,
enter the number of additional cycles desired.
5. The cost to add extra cycles displays briefly followed by the message ENTER TO START.
This message alternates with CLEAR TO CANCEL for about 60 seconds.
6. Press Enter if selection is correct. To change or cancel your selection, press Clear.
7. The message SENDING appears. Your additional cycles & account balance are confirmed.
