Scholarship applications are reviewed and awarded four times each year (once per quarter) to
students attending CityU in the United States or Canada. Complete applications must be clearly
postmarked by the posted deadline. Incomplete or late applications are not considered.
Need Based Scholarships - Scholarships in this category are awarded on the basis of
academic potential, need, and the written essay. A professional resume may be included. U.S.
students must have a FAFSA on file with CityU and a completed financial statement. Canadian
students must submit a copy of their Tax Assessment. ISO students and Ed.D. students are not
eligible to apply for Need Based Scholarships.
Merit Based Scholarships - Scholarships in this category are awarded to applicants who have
earned at least 40 undergraduate credits with a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA)
of 3.0 at City University of Seattle or 12 graduate credits with a minimum cumulative GPA of
3.75 at CityU. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic potential, GPA, and the
written essay. Applicants should also include a professional resume. Ed.D. students are not
eligible to apply for Merit Based Scholarships.
Transfer Scholarships - Scholarships in this category are awarded to Washington State
Residents who are first-time applicants to CityU and have earned an Associate’s degree in the
last 18 months (School of Management or Division of Arts and Sciences students) or are
transferring at least 75 credits (School of Education students only). Students awarded this
scholarship must take 10 credits per quarter. Students must not be receiving any additional
tuition discounts.
Transitioning Veterans Scholarships – Scholarships in this category are awarded to new
students applying for the first time to CityU who are Washington State Residents and are
Veterans of the United States Armed Forces. Applicants must be no more than 24 months prior
to or 12 months after their separation or demobilization date. Awards are based on academic
potential, need, and the written essay. Funds must be exhausted within one year of the award
date.

you. Scholarship applications are kept confidential. Contents will be shared only with
appropriate City University of Seattle personnel.

Please note that, for U.S. campus students, the City University of Seattle Merit Based
Scholarship is not available for Summer Quarter 2015. Fall Quarter 2015 Merit Based
Scholarship applications can be accepted after all Spring Quarter 2015 grades have posted.

General Application Requirements for all Scholarships:
1. Completed City University of Seattle Scholarship Application Form.
2. Attach a personal statement (maximum 2 pages) which addresses the following three
questions, minimum one paragraph each:

Why did you choose to attend CityU? Please describe which aspects about CityU,
specifically, were attractive to you.

Describe the activities you have participated in which positively impacted your
community.

How do you anticipate your CityU education will impact your future career goals?
Personal statements must be word-processed. Handwritten essays will not be accepted.
To apply, complete the Application Form, attach any required supporting documentation, and
submit to the Financial Aid Office by the deadline.

Additional Application Requirements for Specific Scholarship Options:
General Scholarship Need Based:
 If you are applying for summer quarter 2015 through spring quarter 2016, you need to
either submit a 2015-2016 FAFSA (prior to the scholarship deadline) or provide a copy
of your 2014 Income Tax Return in its entirety. Eligible non-U.S. Citizens should provide
documentation comparable to a 2014 U.S. Tax Return; such as a Tax Assessment.
 A completed Financial Statement Form (included in this application).
General Scholarship Merit Based:



Applicants are required to include a professional resume, and
An unofficial copy of your current CityU transcript (available from the my.cityu.edu
Student Portal). If submitted via email, this must be a .PDF attachment of the unofficial
transcript page.
Undergraduate students must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and graduate
students must have a minimum 3.75 cumulative GPA to be eligible to apply.
Transfer Scholarship:


A copy of your current official or unofficial transcript from your Washington Community or
Technical College, showing either 75 completed and transferrable credits (School of
Education students) or a completed Associate’s degree (School of Management and
Division of Arts and Sciences students).
Candidates may also include an optional professional resume.
Transitioning Veterans Scholarship:



A copy of your DD 214-Member 4 form OR a Statement of Service OR Demobilization
paperwork (Guard and Reserve Members only).
Proof of residence (permanent or temporary) in the state of Washington OR
documentation of assignment to a Washington State military installation or armory. This
may be a copy of your Washington State driver’s license, a recent utility bill showing a
Washington address, or a copy of a lease or housing agreement.
Your most recent academic transcript showing a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
City University of Seattle has the right to verify the accuracy of the information provided on
