Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of New Haven!
A leader in experiential education, the University of New Haven is experiencing a historic and
nationally recognized surge in enrollment. Founded in 1920, the University provides its students with a
unique combination of solid liberal arts and real-world, hands-on professional training. UNH is a private
university with an 80-acre main campus. The University has an enrollment of more than 6,300;
approximately 1,700 graduate students and more than 4,500 under- graduates, 70 percent of whom
reside in University housing. The University offers more than 75 undergraduate degrees and graduate
degrees through its five colleges.
Part Time Student Immunizations Records
As required by Connecticut State law, all students born on or after January 1, 1957, and entering an institution of higher education must show proof of having received immunizations for measles, mumps,
rubella (German measles), and Varicella (Chicken pox). You are required to complete and return the
immunization form, which the Graduate Admissions Office sends you once you are accepted. If you do
not send in the appropriate forms, your grades will be held until you do. Students who no longer have
proof of immunization can elect to go to their doctor for a “titer” blood test, which will give immunization data. If you have any questions, contact the Health Service Office M-F between the hours of 8:30
a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at (203) 932-7079, Fax (203) 931-6090.
UNH Username & Password
When accepted, students receive a letter from the IT department with a username & password. Please
keep this for your records, and make copies if necessary. This username & password will access your
grades, e-mail, library databases, Blackboard (for online/blended) and enable you to view your balance
and pay online.
Please note that pop-up blocking software may prevent you from logging into your email account and disable some features in
Blackboard. Set your pop-up blockers to allow all pop-ups from ‘newhaven.edu’ to avoid this problem.

Parking
New London
When visiting New London offices or classrooms, parking is available on the streets of Montauk and
Pequot Avenue or in the Henry Hall parking lot along the water on Pequot Avenue. Make sure if you are
attending classes regularly, you have a New London UNH printed pass. Be sure to obtain a parking pass
upon acceptance into the university. These passes are available in the office at Mitchell Hall and are
different than the stickers obtained at the main campus. They are valid at the New London campus only.
Parking in the center of campus is prohibited. If you park in the staff/faculty lots outside Nathan Hale
Bingham Hall, or the visitor lots outside Mitchell Hall, you will receive a ticket and be fined by Mitchell
College.
West Haven
If you take a course at Main or Orange campus, you must obtain your parking pass from the UNH
Campus Police prior to your first class . Visit http://www.newhaven.edu/parking to register for your
parking pass prior to picking it up and to review all parking regulations on the campus.
How to Pay for your courses
Cohort payments are due at the beginning of each course. The most convenient way to make a
payment and check your account is to utilize the E-Pay system through inside UNH (click the yellow
ePay button). You can also call the Bursar’s Office at 1-800-342-5864, ext.7218 and pay with a credit
card. You may also send check payments by mail or in person to the Bursar’s Office. Please note that if
you require a special receipt from the Bursar’s office for corporate reimbursement, please request it
when making a payment.
Refund Policy
The cohort refund policy matches the part-time graduate trimester policy which is as follows:
Drop before 1st 3 hour session= 100% refund
Drop before 2nd 3 hour session=80% refund
Drop before 3rd 3 hour session=60% refund
Dropping after one Saturday class meeting in a Saturday Cohort is a 60% refund
Drop before 4th 3 hour session=40%
Drop before 5th 3 hour session=20%
Dropping after two Saturday class meetings in a Saturday cohort is a 20% refund
3
Keep in mind that the Financial Aid office does a calculation that the government sets; if you take out a
loan you may not be able to retain the amount of the loan equal to the amount charged if you drop.
Corporate Reimbursement
If your company has an established policy for graduate tuition reimbursement, you must submit an
original letter on company letterhead which includes your name and states the company’s commitment
to pay for charges or a portion thereof for a given course, complete and sign a promissory note to the
university, and retain your registration receipt as proof of payment for yourself and your employer.
If your company offers less that 100% reimbursement, you must pay the difference upon registration and
sign a promissory note for the balance of your obligation. Grade reports (requested from the Registrar
after each course) will serve as proof of course completion. Receipts can be obtained from the Bursar’s
office while paying by e-pay (request via email) or by phone after each course. Failure to pay (by either
employer or student) before the next registration period will prevent future deferred payments and may
affect future registrations.
Financial Aid
Students who receive financial aid in the form of student loans or grants must re-apply every calendar
year they are enrolled in their respective cohort programs. Non-credit programs are not eligible for
financial aid. For Financial Aid questions, please call 203-932-7315 or email
financialaid@newhaven.edu.

Questions/concerns regarding syllabi, instructors, or content
All academic issues should be directed to the instructor of a specific course. If the student is not
satisfied that the issue has been resolved, he/she should contact the chairperson of the department with
the concerns. If the chairperson is the instructor, the concern should be directed to the dean’s office.
Academic issues encompass areas of workload, learning outcomes, assignment results, syllabus, etc.
Expectations of Graduate Student Conduct
Excellence in graduate education is achieved when students are genuine in their mutual desire to see one
another triumph. If there are actions that negatively affect these interactions, relationships can be destroyed. Mutual respect and professional conduct is critical to the success of your program and your
experience.
How can we demonstrate this?
1. Be open to ideas and experiences different from your own 2. Do not speak when others are speaking and try to avoid monopolizing the classroom discussion 3. Show respect for others as they speak or present 4. Be part of creating an environment where everyone is comfortable sharing ideas and asking for clarification 5. Limit cell phones and use of electronic devices to times before or after class, or during breaks

Academic Integrity
The University of New Haven is an academic community based on the principles of honesty, trust,
fairness, respect, and responsibility. Academic integrity is a core University value that ensures respect
for the academic reputation of the University, its students, its faculty and staff, and the academic
credentials it confers. The University expects that students will learn in an environment where they work
independently in the pursuit of knowledge, conduct themselves in an honest and ethical manner, and
respect the intellectual work of others. Each member of the University community has a responsibility to
be familiar with the definitions contained in, and to adhere to, the Academic Integrity Policy, which is
found at http://www.newhaven.edu/unh/marketing/pdfs/handbook/studenthandbook.html. Violations of
the Academic Integrity Policy include, but are not limited to, the following examples: cheating,
collaboration/collusion, plagiarism, fabrication, and facilitating academic dishonesty. This Policy
provides details concerning proscribed behavior as well as the procedures that are triggered in the event
of infractions. The University of New Haven Code of Conduct can be found within the online Student
Handbook.
Academic Probation
Satisfactory progress is defined as a cumulative QPR (GPA) of 3.0 or greater. Any student whose
cumulative QPR (GPA) is below 3.0 will be placed on academic probation and will be required to obtain
written permission from the program coordinator prior to registering for additional coursework. The
program coordinator or designee may provide written conditions, beyond specifying the current term
course registration, which would be included in the student's academic record.
Academic Dismissal
A student whose cumulative QPR is below 2.7 after completion of 15 credit hours will be dismissed
from the Graduate School. Any student who has been dismissed may submit an appeal to the Associate
Provost for Graduate Studies. If the appeal is granted, written conditions for the student must
accompany the permission to continue in the Graduate School. These would be included in the student's
academic record.
Making up a class
Attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class. All classes start promptly. Students are
expected to be on time and remain for the entire class.
If it is necessary to cancel any classes due to unforeseen circumstances, usually inclement
weather, each site will follow its published guidelines. It will be at the discretion of the instructor to
arrange a suitable time and place for make-up.
If a student misses a class for a valid reason, it is at the discretion of the instructor that the work
is made up. Always communicate with the instructor prior to missing a class.
A grade of Incomplete (INC) is given only in special circumstances and indicates that the student has been given permission by the instructor to complete the work for the course with the same instructor after the end of the trimester or term. If a student is required to attend the class sessions for
a course in a subsequent term, tuition must be paid for this second attendance.
Master’s-level students who receive a grade of Incomplete (INC) should complete the work within three
months after the end of the term in most cases. However, in extenuating circumstances, master’s-level
students may have a longer time period specified by the instructor, and not to exceed one year, to
complete the work required for the course and have a grade submitted to the Registrar/Graduate Records. Any exception to the one-year time limit must be in accordance with procedures adopted by
the Faculty Senate.
5
Dropping a Course/Withdrawing from Program
There may be a life or work situation that prohibits students from attending a course (missing
more than 2 out of 5 courses, for example). If you cannot make arrangements to make up work with
the instructor, then you must e-mail us at newlondon@newhaven.edu as soon as you can with the
reason for dropping the course (or program). You must then turn in any books you received, and pay
for any class meetings you attended.
Additionally, you will need to keep track of courses you need to make up in the future.
While we try to keep records of students and missing courses, we cannot be held responsible if you do
not plan when to make up the courses you need to graduate. We can offer you future schedules and
some advice, but you will need to contact us when you would like to take a course, within 2-3 weeks
of the course start date.
