19th & 20th Century Nationalism in Europe NAME: Unification of Italy & Germany Poster Project Overview You will be working in groups of 3 in order to create a timeline that illustrates the long roads of unification for the nations of Italy and Germany. A timeline is a graphic representation of historical events, within and around which are carefully arranged key ideas, symbols, and illustrations that represent the events. Your timeline should be created to give viewers a clear understanding of the basic events and ideas of the unification of Italy or Germany. Use the information provided in our textbook on pages 293-303 to gain an understanding of the key events, ideas, and individuals of the unification of Italy and Germany. Then brainstorm, with your other group members, ideas for what to include in your timeline. Your timeline/poster must have some sort of a theme, but what your poster looks like is entirely up to you . . . get creative. Be sure and consider the following when creating your poster: Poster Content • Clearly identifies the major events (dates) that lead to the unification of Italy or Germany (you should list 9 events). Make sure you see the “Big Picture.” • The unification of Italy or Germany is accurately represented. • Information and material is presented in a way that classmates could understand. Poster Appearance • Poster is simple, memorable, and easy to understand. • Visual elements help the viewer understand the unification of Italy or Germany. • Poster shows high levels of effort, creativity, neatness, and design. *Creativity is a key element of this project! Work neatly and carefully, and use color and other creative touches to make the timelines visually appealing. As always, when working in cooperative groups YOU must do your fair share. If you do not keep up your end of the bargain, you will not receive the same grade as the rest of the group, and could be subject to completing a poster project individually. Remember: You are only as strong as your weakest link! Good Luck! This will be one of your last grades of the 3rd quarter, so make it count! 19th & 20th Century Nationalism in Europe Group Members: Unification of Italy & Germany Poster Project Grade Sheet 10 Points Unification of ____________ ____________ Content Student Evaluation Teacher Evaluation -Clearly identifies the major events (dates) that lead to the unification of Italy/Germany. -The unification of Italy/Germany is accurately represented. -Information and material is presented in a way that classmates could understand. _______ / 5 _______ / 5 Appearance -Poster follows a particular “theme,” and is simple, memorable, and easy to understand. -Visual elements help the viewer understand the unification of Italy/Germany. -Poster shows high levels of effort, creativity, neatness, and design, and also incorporates some sort of a theme. _______ / 5 _______ / 5 TOTAL: ______ / 10
