http://www.sparknotes.com/testprep/books/act/chapter4.rhtml - Use chapters 4, 5, and 6
for Writing and chapters 12 and 13 for Reading.
http://www.edufind.com/english/grammar/ - There is a free test but you have to get
results through your email. It does have an extensive grammar tutorial.
https://faculty.ung.edu/mrhorton/lsenglish/ - This site will show you how the Reading
exam is setup and helps you get use to the test before you take it. This site also includes
how the Writing exam is setup.
http://www.math.com - Be sure to click the pre-algebra link on the left hand side and it
will take you to the different topics to choose from. Stay away from the parts that require
payment for services.
http://www.khanacademy.org/ - Select the learn tab up top and hover over the link that
says arithmetic or pre-algebra to jump to that section of math to get clear instructional
videos on basic math and pre-algebra. It is especially helpful if you struggle with math
concepts.
http://www.coolmath.com/prealgebra/index.html - For ages 13 – 100! This is a colorful
and fun site with excellent teaching units. On the left hand side menu click pre-algebra
and then you can select the different lesson topics in pre-algebra.
http://www.testprepreview.com/compass_practice.htm - Scroll down to click on the
different modules. You will not need to go through the advanced algebra or geometry.
Or you can also go to any search engine (i.e. Yahoo, MSN, Google) and type in the certain area
that you need (such as: fractions, percents, punctuation, organization, or shifts in writing) and it
will find all kinds of helpful sites that you can use to study from.
Free Practice Tests and Sample Questions
Test your skills to see if you are performing well on the subjects
http://www.act.org/compass/sample/ - At the bottom of the page there are practice tests in PDF
format. These are free. Try to do all of them (except the college algebra, geometry, and Trig
section). The answer key is at the end of each practice test.
http://www.4tests.com/ - Select free practice tests for ACT for English and Writing only. Be sure
to uncheck the Math and Science boxes before you begin the exam. The math gets too advanced
too quickly on this test. You can also choose the GED for practice tests on Reasoning through
Language Arts A and B, and Mathematical Reasoning. Be sure to uncheck the Science and
Social Studies boxes before you begin the exam. Also, avoid the sections that want to charge you
for materials.
**The secret is spending quality time on these studies in order to do well on the test.
