Arts and Craft Activity: Salt Dough For mixing, measuring and creative play opportunities, this activity can’t be beat. Help your child with the measuring and mixing, then let their creative side take the reins. For young would be bakers, provide a rolling pin and cookie cutters. Here’s the recipe: Ingredients: 1 cup of fine salt 1 cup of flour 1/2 cup of water (may add more) Instructions: In a large bowl, combine the salt and the flour. Make a well in the salt/flour mixture and add the water. Knead until smooth and shape into a ball. When not in use, wrap in plastic or store in an airtight container. Note: To get a softer dough you can add more flour. Adding more salt will lend a more granular effect. To add color to your dough, use food coloring or paint. Knead to get an even color. Adding a drop of vanilla extract will give it a nice smell and help prevent mold. Items made with this dough can also be air dried and then painted.
